Something happened - Watching cricket. {Edit added 1st 5 minutes from a recording of game}
Clarkies Boy kicks off from the Northern end to start the final.
Goes very hich and bounces awkwardly for USA to regather. 2 phases lated USA Penalised after the runner was isolated and AUS forced the Penalty.
Tap kick taken quickly by Fa'alava'au 5 metres into USA territory, midfield. One dummy and he gets meat and chopsticks. AUS 7 USA 0.
Clarkies Boy kicks off for the second time with 5:31 remaining before oranges. It goes high and 1 metres for USA to gather. 8 phases and one minute later USA get a meat pie in the far corner. Unconverted. 4:36 to go in first half. 12 passes completed by Team USA. 0 by AUA.
Team USA restart by going short to 18 metres from 1/2 way and AUS gather the ball.
Big rund down field by Malouf who passes to Jeloudev who loses it in a breakdown 18 metres out ifrom the USA tryline in centrefield to a USA turnover. Forward pass by USA so it's scrum AUS with 2:25 to go.
3 phases of attack from AUS that goes nowhere and we have caught up to what I missed by watching the cricket.

It is AUS 7 USA 5 with 1:37 to oranges.
AUS PK on 22 m attacking. Quick tap.
Good night nurse after Perry Baker takes intercept and the Jets kick in. Meat and chopsticks for the Septics.
USA 12 AUS 7. Siren for Oranges sounds, but USA to kick off. AUS regather and Clarkise boy nearly gets meat in the corner but it looks like he was tackled into touch. TMO review. He is short, and no try.

Oranges. USA 12 AUS 7.

USA kicking off from North end.
Malouf catches the Gilbert.
4 phases and USA win a not releasing turnover penalty. They make a kick for touch.
USA Lineout. Near 22 m line. USA secure possession. 2 phases and Jeloudev gets breakdown turnover. AUS run to the 1/2 way line and USA penalised for obstruction.
AUS kick for touch. AUS Lineout on 18 m mark. Secured by Gold who use quick hands across the backs for Shannon Walker to bust through a couple of ineffective tackles. Conversion is good and AUS regain lead 14 - 12. 3:21 left.
AUS kick off and regather. Some broken play and Clarkies Boy shimmies through USA D and gets meat and chopsticks. AUS 21 USA 12. 1:59 left
ASU Kick off but knock on in the regather. USA Scrum 30 metres out from their line, midfield.
Brad Wilkin gets on for Gold as substitute.
USA win scrum and it goes wide to Madison Hughes who steps on the gas to get meat in the corner for USA. 0:35 left. AUS 21 USA 17.
USA regather kickoff, siren goes. hot on attack in AUS 22. Desperation from USA but unable to cross the chalk. Knock on by Septics and Sir toots the Acme Thunderer for No Game. AUS win.

USA pushed all the way, not giving up, and with an ounce of luck (which they used up during the game), they could have won this game.

FINAL SCORE: AUS 21 USA 17.

Olympic qualifying impact:
AUS take 13 points as the Plate Winner to move up to 84 series points, remaining in 4th place on the Series table.
ENG finished in joint 7th place as a losing Plate SF and only get 10 series points to move up to 78 points in 5th place (6 points behind AUS).

Not a good night to be wearing Black as Fiji are 3 converted tries up to zip just before oranges at Hong Kong. NZL consolation try after the hooter. Conversion no good.

Oranges see Fiji 21 NZL 5.

5 minutes left: Fiji 28 NZL 12. NZL look puffed out.
Keyboard curse strikes as NZL get meat. Fiji 28 NZL 19 with 2:30 minutes to go.

Fiji respond in kind off the kick off restart. Fiji 33 NZL 19. 1 minute to go.

Siren goes. No change to score. The Wizards from Fiji win in Hong Kong.

Damn, beaten in the Final AGAIN by Fiji AGAIN............... but still 3rd in the WS & comfortably clear of your blokes in 4th (& you've put another 3 points between you & the Poms).

Russia will join the circus full-time next year, beat Zimbabwe in the Final of the qualifying tournament:

Not a good day for this kiwi: woke up to the news that the Crusaders had lost then watched the Warriors lose to Brisbane, NZ lose the cricket (work today is gonna be soooooo much fun, I didn't do too much trash-talking during the week but I know I'm still gonna cop some) & NZ lose the 7's as a nightcap...............
