So the NZ Loig team could be quite good if they had all eligible players released, as could the Samoa and Tonga Country of Origin teams. That could make for some international credibility for that game (in their eyes), but ultimately that game isn't going to grow beyond where it currently is established.

In terms of where people qualify to play for, much the same exists in rugby union.

You can play for your country of birth, your parents country of birth of your grandparents countries of birth.

There aren't a whole lot of people who aren't eligible for multiple countries on that basis.

^^^ On that basis, I know of a lad who could represent Australia (Residency), Hong Kong (or China?) (born there), USA (Mother's Country of birth), New Zealand (Father's Country of Birth), England (Grandmother's Country of Birth), Scotland (Grandfather's Country of Birth), Australia - Again (other Grandmother's Country of Birth) and Ireland (Other Grandfather's Country of Birth).

Good thing he is just a normal kid and unlikely to become the subject of an international bidding war for his signature. Could get messy.

How does it work with adopted kids and the trace back to the Grandparents? Does it follow the birth or adopted lines, or both? A real can of worms.

Born in NSW..

I won't tell you where I'm born but it means nothing to who I support and barrack for.. Kids will typically adopt the parochialism of their parents or friends(ie where they grew up)

Can play for QLd if they saw a map of the place at school ?

Seriously the concept shoukld be simple. Would not be trying to get every rugby player involved - Just first game after school (wherever). A bloke like Matt To'omua who went to State High but straight to the Brumbies would therefore be ineligible for Queensland.

Just like the idea of having blokes (like Mowen, Moore, Moggy etc etc being available for QLD. Reckon the players would love the concept and the ability of playing for THEIR State against NSW

NRL has a reasonable setup at the moment, the point system..

I don't think the first game after school is practical given the number of players signed directly from school these days, it should be a simple process but as the NRL has demonstrated, it isn't.

Under NRL rules, Quade Cooper wouldn't be allowed to play as he moved to QLD as a 13yr old, Will Genia would be ok since he moved over as a 12yr old. David Pocock who arrived at 14 wouldn't be allowed to play either.

Thing I like about State of Origin is the pride shown towards the jersey.

Berrick Barnes & Drew Mitchell to me had pride in the Reds jersey.. But once they slipped on that baby sky blue pride & loyalty went out the window.

Gotta put food on your table.

Best eligibility is surely whoever you played State Schoolboys for given most players made that rep team - if you didn't it would be who you would've played for when if selected so if you were in year 11/12 in NZ/ACT/Vic whatever you're not eligible too bad.

Skelton is born in Auckland, along with Louise and Falealii’s. Then from the Reds you have Fakaosilea, CFS, Hunt, JJT and Tui.

Fuck it ! Those 7 Queenslanders should well and truly dust up the 19 New South Wales blokes.

The passion we have makes the difference:):):)
