I also only mentioned the tackle as it was the catalyst for the incident , I always leave the officiating to the blokes brave enough to actually get out there and do it , making the games possible.

couldn't agree more. I actually thought the ref did a good job in keeping a lid on the tempers, and allowed the game to flow. I know many of the uni boys and norths boys attend sydney university, so there is some rivalry there, but good natured.

The next few weeks will be rather interesting in Colts footy as the Heavyweights start to take on each other.

The first big clash was last weekend when The Corporation did their traditional choke against the Shoremen.

Key games coming that will shape the order and make up of the finals series are:
Round 7
The Corporation vs Wicks
Hobbits vs Highlanders
Marlins v Shoremen

Round 8
Shoremen vs Hobbits
Wicks v Marlins

Round 9
Highlanders v Shoremen
Wicks v Hobbits

Round 10
Wicks vs Shoremen

Round 11
Wicks vs Gordon

Round 12 onwards are the return matches, and while there are uneven heavyweight matches in the final 7 rounds, most clubs have at least 3 tough gigs.

Possible Minor Premiership:
1. Wicks
2. The Corporation
3. Norths
4. Gordon

Interesting short précis of the game . Must say coming from a league background this was an interesting overview. The bloke from Norths that abused the ref after a Uni high tackle penalty and then jumped behind the fence to abuse him further would be banned from further games. I am sure he will justify his appalling behaviour on the fact that officials are paid and should do a better job , but the reality is they do a great job for the pittance they recieve . Go and find a new hobby . I am .

Was it a Parent/Person of a certain age who should know better, or a current/recently retired player?

It is absolutely no excuse for behaviour like that, but it wouldn't surprised me if the individual (and most likely their mates) had been fortified with some "ANZAC spirit", either acquired from the canteen/BBQ or BYO's from the "team fund" from a previous game.

Do these clowns not realise that every time they misbehave in this way all they do is provide one further example for the "powers that be" to cite in order to ban the sale or consumption of beer at SRU venues?

The individual appeared to be an adult somehow associated with the Norths coaching staff

^^^ Disappointing. Should have known much better.

Not that being a current or recently retired Colts player makes abusing a referee any more acceptable.

knowing the aforementioned person, not personally, but know he is a former player and not a member of the coaching staff - but agree jarse, unacceptable.

With a final score of 25-22, I can imagine that things were rather tense in the final minutes of the game at Bon Scott Andrews Oval. In situations like this normally rational folk sometimes do rather irrational things, particularly when they sense there is an opportunity to make my tips for the week correct.

One hopes that the individual in question, and the Norths club and judiciary (if necessary) do the right thing and allow us all to move on.

And on that note, I move on:
With all the Under 20 folk heading off to camp for the Oceania Tournament, there will be some added ginger in the Wicks v Buildcorp game this Saturday night, as both clubs lose key players to the National Under 20's. When was the last time that The Corporation last two games in a row?

Colts Report Round 5 v Manly

(Written by David Smerdon, Colts 1st, Flyhalf)

The sun towered over Chatswood Oval on the weekend, as the Gordon Colts went to work against a tough outfit from the beaches. Gordon dominated the day in the U19’s through to the 2nds Colts, putting on great spectacles, as the tries ran galore. However, Manly were more hungry for the win in the 1sts Colts and Gordon were nudged out of a victory going down in the final moments 21-26.

U19’s Colts (By DJ Jordz):
All the boys came together as a team, played tightly and stuck to structure. The forwards dominated the scrum, winning several tight heads and towered over the Manly boys in the rucks and mauls. The back row were a constant menace around the field, putting on big shots, pestering at the ruck and causing havoc to the Manly side. Special mention to Julian Okawa for putting on one of the biggest hits I’ve ever seen, and also to the backs for fluent play, which saw them successfully outplay the opposition backline. Brandon Marsh had a particularly good game with great vision, being rewarded with few tries to his tally. Captain Tim Taylor played a physically tough game at the back, not letting anyone through all day and should be commended on his defence. The halves came together to provide a great foundation for Gordon all day, serving quality ball to their inside forwards and outside backs. The whole team deserves a mention as every player played well to combine for a great 52-0 win over manly.
3rd Colts:

The classy Gordon 3rd Colts outplayed their Manly opposition, storming away with a 5 tries to obtain the 4 point bonus point, winning 31-5. Samuel Mete (Wing) further showed his claim for the leading try scorer award, as he took away another 2 tries from the weekend. Other try scorers included Will Makeig, Jackson Garrels and Sam Frankham. The 3rd’s are looking strong as they push to challenge the rest of the competition and obtain that first place on the leader-board.
2nd Colts:
The Gordon 2nd’s Colts put on a real spectacle at Chatswood Oval against a seemingly uninterested Manly outfit. The Gordon boys put on a staggering 71 points, with a total of 11 tries. It’s safe to say that these boys are not only solid in attack, but also showed why their a menace to the competition, as they kept the Marlins to nil, with sound defence and great tenacity. Kirt Anthony, Angus McClelland and Marcus Hundt were clear standouts, with 7 tries between the three players.
1st Colts:
After witnessing a great display of rugby from the 2nd’s Colts, the Gordon 1st’s looked set to mirror their image. However, they came out of the sheds against a team more hungry for the win, and despite leading for most of the game, Manly crossed the try line with minutes remaining and the Gordon boys couldn’t rally together to come up with the win. Final score 26-21 to the Marlins. Unfortunately, Gordon didn’t come out willing to put their heart into the jersey and payed the toll. The team still sits 4th on the ladder, however a gap is now evident as the top 3 teams are unbeaten.
All 4 teams now look towards next weekend’s battle against Warringah, and with some solid previous performances against the Rats in the trial games, the goal is to get a clean sweep with maximum points taken away by each team.

Thanks @Hugh Jarse!

Anybody have an injury update/casualty ward for their clubs? Surely as we get into the middle portion of the season some clubs will be feeling the pinch with niggles and injuries?

Randwick have today changed the team lists on rugby link. You would think who ever is in charge of the team sheets on game day would know who the players are and not get the players confussed 2 games in a row.
I wonder if they played him as an unregistered player?

Some clubs appear to be paying lip service to any requirement to update Rugbylink, or to keep it accurate.

As if there weren't enough "problems" with player points cap, the way this is handled in Rugby Link makes a complete mockery of the situation.

Eric Spilsted Shield (Colts Club Championship) Watch:
The usual suspects continue to consolidate their positions at the top 1/2 of the 2015 table. The loss to Norths has cost The Corporation a stack of points at the top of the leaderboard, and a second loss this week to the rampant Randi-Wix will set them back further. Norths v Manly, and Gordon v Hobbits could also upset the top 6 positions.

To some, Gordon are the surprise package for 2015 with some shrewd recruiting in the off season, attracting many former players from Junior Village Clubs in the Gordon footprint, building on the foundation of their very young colts teams from 2014.

There are a maximum of 55 points available to a club each week, based on all 3 colts teams winning with a 4 try BP.

Randwick, 330 points
Northern Suburbs, 294 points
Sydney University, 290 points
Gordon, 260 points
Southern Districts, 204 points
Manly, 163 points
Eastwood, 150 points
Eastern Suburbs, 103 points
West Harbour, 101 points
Parramatta, 89 points
Penrith, 28 points
Warringah, 0 points*

How the Colts Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.
Colts 1 - 6
Colts 2 - 3
Colts 3 - 2

* Warringah deducted 4 points for a Late Forfeit in Round 1 Colts 3, and 2 Points for a Forfeit in Round 2 Colts 3.

Did you think the Rugby Link record got updated because you been asking discrete questions of your friends in Green, or do they have spies lurking in Gaggerland?

Interesting coincidence.

some tough games this round and I think a couple could go either way:
parra v Warringah - parra by 40
woods v easts - woods by 7 in a tight one
manly v norths - norths by 10 in a tight one
wests v bye - wests easily
souths v Gordon - Gordon by 20

Southern Districts Reports - Round 6

Round 6: Manly Match Report

Rain? What rain? Forshaw rugby park was in great condition after the weeks drenching. The day was a great Winter's Saturday with the sun out and anticipation of a good days rugby against the very strong Manly club.
The day started with a very enjoyable 18s game v. Sydney Uni with both sides throwing the ball around and scoring some great tries.
Souths got away to a good start with 2 early tries and Uni could not bridge this gap with both sides going try for try, Souths winning 35 to 17.

3rds went out to keep the the running rugby attitude going, but got caught up with too many individuals trying to make the breaks resulting in Manly winning 24 to 17.

2nds started very positively and played some high tempo attacking rugby, and coming of 2 significant losses the attack is the best form of defense seemed to be working and some excellent tries were scored as they skipped away to a good lead.
Manly are a club that doesn't lie down and came back hard the in last 20 minutes of the game, a couple of tries had Souths hanging tough for a good win 32 to 27.
The team needs to understand that defense is part of the game and whilst it's great to throw the ball around you still need to go forward first.

1sts, well, who would have thought the game would end the way it did. I have never seen this happen before. Both sides took the field ready to play some rugby and both sides ripped into
each other. It was clear it was going to be an arm wrestle and with the dark clouds rolling in any points were going to be crucial.
Souths jumped to an early lead with a great penalty goal and a good try out wide to Jack Conen of a magic backhanded cut out pass from Franky Calgulay, from there it was a case of stay in front.
15 minutes into the 2nd half and with Souths in front 17 to 15 the storm hit with plenty of lightning and the ref postponed the game for 20 minutes, but with the lightning still around the game was abandoned due to safety to the players with Souths the winners 17 to 15.

Certainly not the way to win the game and it had the same feeling as when you play a draw.

Next week we host Gordon who are having a very strong season, and both clubs need the win so it will be on again at Forshaw rugby park.

Player of the day goes to Jake Lubrano for a very strong game in 2nds and really led from the front.
