The 4 Pines Bastard lineup is well worth trying if you can get your hands on them.

Want to know what your local craft beer friendly pub has on tap? Tried everything that they have at your local, wanna see what the other pubs nearby have on tap?

Try this web site: http://nowtapped.com/

They also have a phone app but I haven't tried that out yet.

Stone & Wood, Beers of the Earth report 2:

Tried the German hefeweizen, Czech pilsener and American IPA recently.

German hefeweizen, a good rendition of a Germanic wheat beer style, had the requisite clove lingering in the aftertaste (from Wikipedia, "Weizenbier or Hefeweizen, in the southern parts of Bavaria usually called Weißbier (literally "white beer",.....is a Bavarian beer in which a significant proportion of malted barley is replaced with malted wheat. By German law, weißbiers brewed in Germany must be top-fermented. Specialised strains of yeast are used which produce overtones of banana and clove as by-products of fermentation.") One of the better Australian wheat beers I've come across.

Czech pilsner, nice and clean but not quite as crisp as the real thing. Those of us from the Sydney Brigade of G&GR who have pre-match beers at The Local Taphouse are familiar with Czech and German pilsners as they've had Budvar and Trumer Pils on tap for years. An acceptable Australian copy.

These two and the London porter are delicious beers, but I'd term them almost very, very good. I gather S&W knocked this lot out as a seasonal or special offering, maybe if they were a standard line they'd improve them that little bit, the porter with a touch more burnt coffee, the wheat beer a bit more clove and the pilsner a tad crisper.

American IPA, definitely not an "almost" beer, in fact quite the opposite, it was over the top. I downed this on my own one evening, and was a bit worse for wear next morning. An inspection of the bottle showed why: 7.2% alc/vol! HUGE residual hop bitterness to go with that big, chewy sweetness common to high alcohol beers. Not one for the faint-hearted.

Stone & Wood, Beers of the Earth report 3:

If the porter, hefeweizen and pilsner were "almost" beers and the Septic IPA was over the top, the Antipodean pale ale is spot on. A delicious elegant brew, beautifully balanced with just the right amount of bitterness and a delightful lingering flavour of hops (not at all citrussy), whatever variety they are. If anyone from Stone & Wood happens across this blog, RELEASE THE PALE ALE AS A STANDARD LINE, please. Doesn't matter if it comes in 500ml bottles, I'll buy it.

As one who does his bit for the liquor trade, mostly wine, I've volunteered for the evening session of GABS this Saturday. So, anyone attending that session will have the pleasure of meeting yours truly. And sucking on some delicious craft beers. What more could a bloke (or bird) want? :D

Saw this Yank beer at the local Aldis in Bowral and Mittagong, Hopper Whitman Nut Brown Ale, very rarely I get to enjoy a 2nd serving of a craft beer as much as the first one, so sent my son out for more the next day!

Seems that it has been around Aldi's stores for awhile, as I found in my research that it was on 'sale' couple of years ago: http://www.discountstoresau.com/aldi-catalogue/special-buys-week-28-2013-20.html

Well worth the price of 12.99 for a six pack and if my memory serves me right, $40 a carton!

Did my usual run and grab of beers in Toowoomba yesterday and I was surprised to see a 4 pines Stout. Needless to say I tried it last night. Fantastic! I've been dabbling into the stouts a little, even buying some guiness. Out of the can, it is a poor imitation of St James Gate.
Wondering what stouts/ dark ales people world recommend at the moment?
Grabbed a six pack of the latest hop thief for a try as well. Should be interesting...

That 4 pines is pretty good.

You can't go too wrong with a Coopers Extra Stout, or the White Rabbit Dark Ale both of which you should be able to get your hands on pretty easily.

Perfect for the cold weather out your way at the moment

I had a 4 pack of the Little Creatures Return of the Dread stout over the week.

It's taken all week to get through it. I like a beer with some hair on its chest, but this one just seems like while roasting the malt they forgot to take it off and they burnt it.

Wouldn't really recommend it.
