Eric Spilsted Shield (Colts Club Championship) Watch:
There has been some minor positional adjustments in the middle of the 2015 table, and this is not entirely accurate because 4 teams have had one round postponed, which will be played over the June Long Weekend.

On current form Northern Suburbs, should be able to gather enough points from the deferred round to pass Gordon and move into 3rd place, and Parramatta is likely to do similar and move past West Harbour after their deferred matches against Warringah have been played.

To some, Gordon are the surprise package for 2015 with some shrewd recruiting in the off season, attracting many former players from Junior Village Clubs in the Gordon footprint, building on the foundation of their very young colts teams from 2014.

There are a maximum of 55 points available to a club each week, based on all 3 colts teams winning with a 4 try BP.

Randwick, 559 points
Sydney University, 545 points
Gordon, 447 points
Northern Suburbs, 445 points
Southern Districts, 314 points
Eastwood, 305 points
Eastern Suburbs, 303 points
Manly, 281 points
Parramatta, 206 points
West Harbour, 179 points
Penrith, 83 points
Warringah, 52 points#

How the Colts Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.
Colts 1 - 6
Colts 2 - 3
Colts 3 - 2

# Warringah deducted 4 points for a Late Forfeit in Round 1 Colts 3, and 2 Points for a Forfeit in Round 2 Colts 3.

Edit: Updated, based on results from 5 & 6 June games.

Heard there might be a City v Country colts game soon. Does anyone know about this? Gathered it might be on the long weekend, but haven't heard anything official about it yet. Anyone shed any light on this fixture?

^^^^ You would hope that it was a "origin" style game if it went ahead.

With all due respect to those young men playing Colts rugby in the bush, most of the best young talent from NSW Country Rugby are playing in Sydney, for the likes of The Corporation, Beasties, Randi-Wix, Hobbits, Highlanders and Shoremen,

If the selection criteria was "former NSW Country Junior player", then the Country Colts team could roll out a rather formidable team. Otherwise, ... ... ... there was a reason that NSW Country U20 played in the Southern States U20 tournament, while NSW U20 played in and won the National U20 Championships.

I was at the souths v wests game at concord and watched all 4 games, the Souths 18s are a hot side even though the score ended up close whilst the top team was on the field it was going to end up a big victory and with about 10+ reserves and just about all getting a run the score narrowed.
I am getting a bit dissapointed in the level of refereeing at Colts level and the massive difference in rule interperations from 1 ref to the other and where are the better referees and are the colts especially colts 1 losing the refs to schoolboy games? I know there are sometimes people assessing the refs? Do refs get dropped or promoted?
When something happens and a ref calls out a player its a case of hold your breath anything can happen here.

That would be very cool, but I have heard nothing about it before. Would be a really entertaining fixture without too much need for trialling the selection process (we country tragics would need to agree that selection would have to be a little clumsy)

I agree that the quality of refereeing has been patchy. Some whistles seem to get one big idea in their heads and blow their way through what might otherwise have been a good contest.
However, no referee, no game, and I could definitely NOT do better. I make a point of thanking every referee for doing their bit.
In the teams that I coach I try to make sure that players learn to play with the Ref they have by working out what the Ref clearly cares about and working with that. That and never, ever talk back to the Ref. It is pointless in so many ways.

Country Colts played Easts Colts on Saturday after Grade game at 5pm under lights at Woollahra. Country Colts got off to great start, scoring first and pushing Easts forwards off the ball. But then Easts came back and were never headed again. Very entertaining game of running rugby and strong forward play in the rucks. Country beaten though not disgraced. Country had handicap of limited time together as a team. Easts gtave them a free feed after the game. Nothing wrong with a country boy's appetite

They'd want to name a squad of about 30 then. Quite a few lads end up with bumps and bruises from Saturday and are unable to back up on Sunday, and looking at the draw for late June, there are some big physical games there.
Also some players who carefully manage their game time may decline to nominate for this team.

Colt's Report Round 10

Only Colts Firsts played on the main oval and boy were they lucky to get away with the win.

They did enough to win…just….leading 24 to 10 early in the second half but with 3 minutes left they were behind 25 to 24 !!

A late penalty goal saw Easts claim victory by 27 to 25 but it was far from a satisfactory performance and they boys will be in for a hard training week.

Seconds and thirds played on Woollahra No. 3 and seconds were the team of the day.

Running into the wind in the first half they were behind 7 to 5 at half time but then set full sail in the second half to storm home 36 to 7 winners , the highlight being Brodie Bailey’s 4 tries.

Thirds struggled to hold the ball and after an early solo try to James Pirrelli they were always playing catch up to go down 22 to 19.

This week seconds and thirds play Penrith at far away Penrith while first grade will play after first grade at 5pm at as Penrith do not field a first grade colts team. Woollahra against a Country team

Is this game for the 2015 Under 20 country boys, or for next year's Under 20s? In other words, is this open to the 2015 batch of Colts???

My understanding its for players who turn 19 this year and its about finding that player who slipped through the crack or league guys who switch to Rugby i am assuming and clubs nominate the players to put forward

RD 11: WEST HARBOUR MATCH REPORT
The last game of the first round was against Wests at Concord and from 18s to 1sts colts it was a very important weekend of rugby and wins in all grades were non negotiable.

18s started the day and typical Wests came out full of running with there big power runners bending the line and looking for off loads and really looking to gain that physical edge.

The 18s are not a big side but are well drilled and have had to deal with bigger sides all year and the 18s went straight to there patterns and with Trey back from 2nds at 10 he ran the show and the points started.

Wests were hanging in there and came back well in the 2nd half and tied the scores but the 18s didn't panic and looked like they always had a try up there sleeve which Cooper Harris scored for a solid 34 to 29 victory.

3rds started well with a lot of enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck into the Wests team who had also come to play and it was looking like a cracker of a game, but a neck injury to Brandon Kemp that required an ambulance put a pale of concern amongst all the players and supporters.

As shown with the 2 incidents in grade at Manly and Parramatta we are blessed to have the medical support staff who bring a genuine level of care and concern at games and again this was on show in the treatment Brandon received on the field. I would to take this opportunity to thank Mark Docking and the Wests medical team for all their assistance it was really appreciated.

Luckily all is fine and we look forward to seeing Brandon back at training. It was decided to push the starting times for 2nds and 1sts back 15 minutes to allow 3rds some proper game time and the game started and as expected it started a bit slowly, but soon warmed up and became a real arm wrestle.

Wests were bringing their power game and Souths were trying to get them on the edges and open the game up. With wests in front 19 to 17 and full time about to ring, a line out 10m from Wests line resulted in a great rolling maul try to Henry Robertson who as captain led from the front all day and a great but not pretty win to 3rds 22 to 19.

2nds had felt the displeasure of coach Mick Mick all week after the lose to Eastwood the week before and needed to play well to get back in his good books and the team responded accordingly with a very strong and clinical 55 to 6 victory.

The score might indicate an easy win but it was far from that and most of the 1st half it was 7 to 6 Souths way before a couple of late tries had a 17 to 6 halftime lead.

The 2nd half Souths clicked into gear and Brock Hammond at 10 was creating some opportunities out wide and put in some nice kicks to the corners when needed. Callum Quinn at 13 was a handful and 2 long range tries showed his speed is back.

With players returning from injury 2nds were the main benefactors but it was the intent on how they played which i was pleased about and if they play the same way each week the score boards will look after themselves.

1sts came out with the task to make the day a good day with a victory and a club clean sweep which i felt was very important and crucial way to finish the 1st round.

The 1sts started out very positively and a quick George Prassas try and conversion had us in a good position and early signs were good. High energy and good talk had the spectators excited and a further try had a nice 12 nil lead but Wests hit back to make it 12 to 7 but a good pressure scrum from Souths 5m out from the Wests line and Wests feed had Souths back comfortably in front 19 to 7.

Shortly a great Tom Doyle run up the centre of the field and quick phase ball Rory Davis was able to dart over and a 24 to 7 lead which Was the halftime score. The 1st 30 minutes the game was a good spectacle but the last 10 minutes was poor with the game getting bogged down with poor play bad decisions and poor kicks.

Hopefully the 2nd half would pick up. Unfortunately it didn't and the game just limped along. Still physical in tight but I don't think the coaches from both sides will get a lot of joy watching the tape.
George Prassas got a nasty shoulder injury which took the edge of the win. A crashing try by Joey Tataha had a 29 to 7 lead but Wests finished the day with a good try but Souths finished with a solid 29 to 14 victory.

A clean sweep to the club and a week off to recharge the batteries for the last 6 comp games and then the finals. A tough and demanding 6 week period coming up as we are in a real battle to make the finals in all grades except 18s who are undefeated and playing some great high temp rugby. We control our destiny in the 3 colts comps and if we keep winning we keep staying in the race.

Eastwood at their home is our next game and a massive week that will be. Enjoy the break and lets get stuck into training and see where the ride takes us.

Player of the day goes to all the mums and dads who have been to the games and supported there sons and the teams and the club.
We have parents that travel from Yamba to Shellharbour and all areas in between and we thank you for doing this.

Every week there are a group of parents at training in the cold watching their sons train and then drive them home. Thank you for all your support and highlights that Southern Districts is truly a family club.

Match Reports - Round 11
Eastwood v Norths
@ T. G. Milner

Colts 1

Eastwood 31 to 17 Northern Suburbs

A challenging match against a team, North’s that was above us on the table and up to last week hadn't lost a match.

The challenge for the 1st Grade Colts Woodies side was to put what was learnt from last weeks match at Forshaw, the good and the bad and move forward.

The test was to control for longer periods the way we play the game with the ball in hand, not throwing the 50/50 pass, keep to good basic rugby, deny the opposition the ball - that is treasure the ball and place the opposition under pressure with faster line speed.

Well we got the chocolates!!

An impressive display where we let our play do the talking. Our physicality certainly was something North’s weren't expecting. Our set pieces are slowly improving. Our lineout’s were competitive and we in majority of cases were successful in getting good clean ball. This set the platform for our backs.

We took our opportunities and played well. Something we have shown recently in patches in a number of matches but not consistently for two halves.

The challenge for the team is now to keep the intensity up and play at the level for longer periods.

Well done on your efforts and yes the coaching and management were smiling! Hopefully when we play Southern Districts in a weeks time we will again see a team playing a solid brand of Rugby.

That’s the challenge for the Woodies 1st Grade side for our next match.

Consistency with our general play (no 50/50s), Persistence with doing the little things correctly and above all backing each other up at depth are areas to work on over the next week.

Tries: Ed Craig (1), Joshua Bones (1) and Joshua Nohra (3)
Penalties: 0
Conversions: Matthew Collins (3)

B&F Points
3. Joshua Nohra
1. Joshua Bones
1. Adam DeSantis
1. James Day

Players Player: Aiden Hopping
See you at training.

Colts 2

Eastwood 24-32 Norths

Conceding a try in the opening minutes through a poor start signalled the sort of effort required to take on the 3rd place North’s outfit. 2nds rose to the challenge minutes later, via recently promoted fullback Tom Koodrin, who turned on the pace to beat several defenders out wide, 5-5.

Woods next venture into North’s 22 saw #9 Captain Jordan Gillespie take on the North’s backline from the scrum base and charge over North’s line, Woods lead 10-5. 2nds defended this lead for most of the remainder of the first half, until Norths’s line out and rolling maul, tied the score. Minutes before half time, all that hard work went astray, as North’s ran the ball, and vital missed tackles gave them the lead at the break 15-10.

Frustrating to report 2nd half highlights included yellow cards at the 3 minute and 23 minute mark. To 2nds credit, all realised the game was in balance, and the team lifted and worked tirelessly to secure the ball and field position.

Further Woods points resulted from a try to barging winger Tom Hudson, and replacement centre Tom Nicita who beat the North’s defenders in goal to secure his first points in 2nds.At 20-27, still anyone’s game, and 2nds were playing the better rugby and displaying the signs that they were capable of finishing off. Until fate intervened, an intercept try went to North’s, and our final attack through Zac Herron who barged his way over the North’s line was denied a well-deserved try.

Tries: Tom Koodrin, Tom Hudson, Tom Nicita, Jordan Gillespie
Conversions: Lachlan Croese (2)
B&F Points: 3 Jordan Gillespie 2 Henry Walkerden 1 Liam Northridge Players player: Tom Koodrin

Colts 3

Eastwood 12 - 29 North

Again from the kick-off we put ourselves under pressure by kicking the ball out on the full after some good alpha plays. North’s scored quickly thereafter and it was 7 nil after only 5 mins. We then spent a considerable time in North’s half without obtaining any points. In contrast, every time North’s got the ball they made easy yards and scored two more tries in the first half.

The pattern continued in the beginning of the second half with a North’s player beating five "attempts" at tackle to score and go to a 26 nil lead. The Woods then started to play and scored two good tries, one by Mitch Caldwell from a quick tap after sustained pressure on the North’s line and the second from a set move from a line-out with Jonas Williams ultimately crossing to score. The second half was a win to the Woods 12-9 but it is difficult to come back from a 26 point deficit.

B&F Points: Nathan Watson 3, Tom Nicita 2, Daniel Ryan 1.
Players player: Tom Nicita

Nailed the victor.:) Not so good on the margin.
From Round 7 Tips:
Manly v Northern Suburbs. As predicted the Shoremen rolled the Corporation. Historically they usually back these stellar performances up with a less than stellar performance. The Marlins will be looking to re-establish their claim for a spot in the finals after their loss to the Hobbits in last weeks tempest. I'm tipping the MMM to ambush the Red and Black folk and win by 5-10 in a low scoring game.

Edit: Round 7 Deferred Games - Results from Merrylands RSL Park (pm 6 June)
Colts 1: Warringah 14 Parramatta 45
Colts 2: Warringah 0 Parramatta 70
Colts 3: Warringah 33 Parramatta 27
