Saw that there was no thread - or hardly a mention of the match - so I figured I would start up a thread.

I find it ironic that Flip "Foul Play" van der Merwe is in the World XV lineup, considering how he walked away from the Boks after throwing his dummy re salary disputes. What is the code of ethics or is there an NDA for releasing a teams calls? Not suggesting he would, but I've always been curious about that? Anyone know?

Does anyone know if this is being televised like the AIG's game tomorrow?

Can't find it in the listings but there's always the red button........... they're showing a replay of NZ Maori v Fiji late Sat/ early Sun so it's not out've the question (unless SARU sold the rights to someone like Setanta rather than M-Net).

Looks pretty first-string, hope it doesn't mean the dirt-trackers get a run the following week in BrisVegas.......................

Can't imagine he knows much of the calls other than some lineout calls. He was out all of least year.

None issue.

The fact that there's 10 Toulon boys will probably help with team cohesion when select teams often don't have too much.

Other than that, it's a team for which getting steamrolled is very likely.

Jesse Kriel at 13 - the fuck? He's only played 15 at Super Rugby level has he not? Don't understand why Meyer doesn't just stick with Serfontein the incumbent.

Kriel was predominantly a 13 who got shoved into 15 by the Bulls after injury to their incumbent. He played a blinder and they kept him there. His preferred position is 13.

The Bulls talk about him as the long terms 13 as well. HE will be playing there as soon as they find a decent 15.

Even though there is a bit of risk to debut him in 13, would you try it against the world 15 or the Wallabies the next weekend?

Serfontein is a 12 who plays a bit of 13 and is just coming off a 5 month injury and id not considered to be ready to play.
JPP experiment at 13 seems to have been dropped.
Jacques Fourie came back out of shape from Japan.
JdV has been out for a year and is coming back off bench.
Frans Steyn playes 12 or 15.
The only other option in the squad is Lionel Mapoe who is a real 13.

I think most people in SA want to see how Kriel goes there. We have little to no depth at 13, and not much time to try things.

This game should be seen as a trial run and not much more.

Is JJ Engelbrecht injured or just not considered for selection?

Not considered due to form I would presume saulityvi. He will go head to head with Kriel in this match, though.

No surprises.

World XV were rather lethargic. Terrible actually.

Bok defence, even down to 13 men, never looked troubled and never really seemed to have to work hard.

Not the best preparation for the Boks, but better than none. Hopefully they don't get a false sense of confidence after this because it really wasn't test-quality.

On the plus, Kriel went well, de Allende went well, Burger, de Villiers, Koch, Coetzee and, Lambie went well but this cannot be seen as a true test of their character just yet.

Thought Pienaar was better than usual as well.

Farewell to Ali and Bakkies. True legends of the game.

Yes, through watching the game now and cant see why JJ should be considered for Springbok selection.

I think De Allende was good, Schalk Burger was good, Koch had some good involvements once he came on. JdV looked good considering the circumstances, he will get better with more game time.
