Probably, but that's a quarter of a very good crowd over the 2 days pretty much from the pre-sale.

I think Sydney 7's will do very well, especially with the likes of Sonny Bill Williams and hopefully Quade Cooper playing. And Sydney's the right city for it. The best 7's legs are in big, global cities.

As for the stadiums plan, I think it's certainly worth investing in new stadiums to replace the SFS and Parramatta Stadium. The only thing I don't like is redeveloping ANZ. It won't change the fact you're way too far away from the action in the 2 main grandstands. I'd rather they just let that one live out its days as is then replace it with something new and better in 10-15 years. There's no need for a multipurpose venue. The SCG and Sydney Showgrounds are perfectly adequate for AFL and cricket.

My understanding is that ANZ will be converted to a rectangular stadium and the stands will be moved closer to the grounds..
ANZ has far superior public transport connections then SFS(even with the new light rail) so it makes sense to upgrade that ground, it's not a perfect location by any means but it's better then Moore Park based on PT links alone.

Presumably only the end stands, though, not the main stadium structures on each side.

If you wanted to demolish and rebuild one of the sides then the cost would be enormous - almost akin to a brand new stadium.

Yeah it's only the end stands that will be closer. And actually they'll be adjustable. It will remain a multi-purpose venue according to the plans on the stadium's website.

I didn't read that, this whole proposal bar the upgrade of Parramatta Oval looks like a bit of shit fight then, they're investing money in the wrong areas.

NSW should be aiming to build the premier rectangular stadium in the country, not some multi-purpose stadium that leaves fans squinting to see the action.

An 85'000 strictly rectangular stadium is what Sydney needs, this will host your big events and provide the intimate atmosphere all fans seek.

Moore Park should feature an upgraded stadium of 45'000 capacity max, all major events can shift to the new major stadium.

Any 'oval' sports can play at the SCG or the GWS Stadium in Homebush.

It's not just the immediate electorates in vicinity of the stadium that it appeals to, it's the electorates of all those who prefer to go to a games at Moore Park rather then travelling west to ANZ Stadium.

Like I said, no team draws crowds of 55'000 out of finals series, what's the highest average crowd in Sydney? 25'000? Which blockbuster games will get played at the new stadium? A Super Rugby SF once every 10 years? An A-League GF perhaps? The NRL GF, State of Origin and Bledisloe Cup matches will remain at a newly developed ANZ Stadium.

Just because it was an election commitment and they currently have the money doesn't mean it's a good idea. Upgrade the stadium but don't expand its capacity beyond what's required.

That's a fair point, I just disagree about it being a politically motivated decision. The NSW Government is sitting on a 40% margin in the 2PP polls and there isn't an election for another 3.5 years, and if they really wanted to pander there are better ways to spend that money.

I question the need to rebuild Allianz, but in its current form it really struggles with any crowd over 30K. You could do a refurb, but if you've got the cash then why not knock it down and build something that is really good?

According to the Daily Tele yesterday, the ANZ redevelopment will go beyond what's on their website. Not sure how they are going to do it, but every seat will be moved closer to the field.

Ultimately ANZ Stadium is cursed by having to host the Olympics. It's too big to knock down, we just have to work with what we've got. An 85k rectangular ground would be great, but I can't see that happening any time soon.

I'd prefer they spend that money on something really good like a hospital,or heaven forbid rail to Northern beaches or another spit crossing......

Let's move on from the politics of it, we shut down those threads for a reason and we don't want to derail the whole thread.

From a Tahs perspective a new home stadium can't be a bad thing, especially if there are better training/admin facilities involved.

cant see how it adds any value at all.
What training facilities are needed that are not to hand presently?
I have never heard a complaint about the current stadium in its current state.
The thing that would enhance spectator experience at Moore park, would be a super dooper car park with multiple entrance/exits to negate the inevitable traffic chaos after every game.
At a faction of the cost.....

Here are 3 ways off the very top of my head:

1. Better spectator experience. Will be high-tech with better food and drink services and amenities inside- which is something people complain about ALL THE TIME at the SFS so I'm amazed you haven't heard it. Easier access from the road.

2. Better corporate experience. This is a big one. The corporate boxes at the SFS are in shitty locations, and limits the amount of support that teams based there can receive, and limits the services they can provide.

3. Possibility to include underground parking, which can only help as you mentioned.

Again, from a purely Waratahs perspective, I can't see how this is anything but a positive.

Yeah that's a fair point. Imagine we'd have to relocate to Homebush for some or all of a season.

It would make it hell for members' seats though.

Yeah,I'll give you concessions.
I'm oblivious to that.i eat/drink before or after,as do most I know.
But moving away for 2 seasons would be devastating for the Tahs IMO.
When people get used to not going there,it's very hard to turn it around.
Crowds before and after the Michael Foley disaster is a case in point.

How long does a stadium stand before its generated a return on its investment and has served its purpose?
ANZ was built in 1999? And by the time this redevelopment kicks off it will be 2019 at least, meaning it's had a 20 year life cycle. Spending a further $800million upgrading the stadium will extend they life for another 20years until 2039.

The stadium projects have been estimated at $1.6, I've already voiced my opinion about the proposed SFS stadium been unnecessarily big, save some of the SFS money and invest it into upgrading ANZ properly. A complete knockdown isn't necessary, contrary to beliefs Suncorp stadium isn't a full rebuild, they utilised an existing main stand in the superstructure of the new stadium. ANZ could do the same and build a proper large scale rectangular stadium for Sydney.

True. Hard to believe now how antiquated the old Lang Park was:

I can't believe that Nemani Nadolo was a Tahs player. He's one of the best ball carriers in the world ATM with 126 kg of power and he can kick better than most of our especialist kickers.

Even he has played for Australia U20, now he would be a starter Wallabies easily, at winger or even at #12.

What the hell happened to him?
