Anybody been following the GC Rugby in 2015?

Bond Pirates after not winning a game in 2014 have won 5 on the trot to entrench themselves in the Top 4, featuring a certain very good looking 6/7 and face ladder leaders Surfers Paradise this Saturday.

Palm Beach have dropped dramatically this season I've noticed.

Surfers Paradise look like the team to beat though.

BLK match of the round between Bond and Southport ended in an 18-all draw.

Bond number 8 and captain Tai Ford picked up the BLK player of the round.

First round of Semi Finals completed.

GC Eagles into the GF defeating minor premiers Surfers Paradise 13-12.

In the Minor Semi Final Bond Pirates defeated last years Runners Up Helensvale 23-6.

This weekend in the Preliminary Final, Bond Pirates face off against Surfers Paradise. A huge turn around for the club from 2014. In 2014 the 1st grade team did not win a game, this Saturday we are playing for a Grand Final berth. Pirates are also still featuring a very good looking 7.

Pirates also swept the GCDRU awards night with Captain Tai Ford winning competition best forward, Greg Bannister winning competition MVP and top point scorer, Michael Burke winning equal best back (with Ross Morrissey of Colleges and 1 other) and Lincoln Matahere winning best coach.

Expect to see Greg Bannister and Tai Ford at Bond Breakers next season.

So Train, are Bond Uni/Breakers using the GC comp clubs like Pirates as feeder teams for players who can cut it in the Brisbane Premier comp - is that the idea? Bond Uni performed well this year, quite an improvement from previously.

Gold Coast competition is completely separate as far as I'm aware. I believe coaches from Breakers generally get in the ear of quality players to test themselves in Premier Grade.

Received this from my club today
"There was an article in the Gold Coast Bulletin today (11/2) about rugby union on the Gold Coast. We request that you ignore the content of the article and be assured that the coming season will be business as usual. It is true that the QRU has taken over administration of the GCDRU but this is only a positive development that will ensure the future of the game. "

Good news for a change

"THE Gold Coast District Rugby Union competition will be back in local hands after an astonishing $265,000 debt was wiped in less than two years – paving the way for the Queensland Rugby Union to relinquish control.

Years of financial struggles for the Gold Coast competition saw the local board depart ahead of the 2016 season, with Queensland Rugby Union stepping in to run the show and ensure the game’s survival in the region."
