Feel free to include other comps in here as well, not just the Dewar Shield.

A few changes made in club land with a few head coaches being announced and people moving clubs.

- Paul Maihi has moved back to Endeavour Hills from Souths to take over the head coach roll for 1st grade.
- Andrew Slyfield has moved from Box Hill to Uni to take over the 1st grade coaching there. Not sure what has happened to Jason and Brad, I think Jason has moved into more of a director of rugby role.
- Shaun Shannon has been appointed at Souths to replace Paul, I am not sure where he has come from.

Moorabbin had this on their website.
At the Club's recent Presentation Night President Paul Gascoigne outlined the new coaching approach that will be introduced for the 2016. He said:

In August, the Rams Committee decided to take a new approach to selecting senior grade (U16 – 1st team) coaches for 2016. This was based on 5 key decisions:
-That Expressions Of Interest were requested from all interested persons as soon as possible so that the selection process for the core panel of coaches would be completed before the end of season event
-That these expressions were reviewed by a selection panel consisting of three committee members and three senior players – Ikensio Tuia, Brendan Todd and Simon Brown
-That a Coaching Panel be established across all senior grades – from U16 through U18, Colts, Womens, 3rds, 2nds and 1st team – so that:
o Knowledge and experience could be shared throughout the grades
o Communication, engagement and mentoring between the teams is improved
o A playing style and attitude would be instilled right across all the teams
o Up and coming players could be better identified and nurtured
o Greater club loyalty could be achieved from the broad playing group
o There would be more effective succession planning for future teams representing the Rams in future years
- That this core panel be appointed for a 3 year period (subject to results) to bring continuity to the club
- That senior grade selection decisions would be through a selection panel made up of all the coaches with committee representation
9 EOI's were received. The panel reviewed all of these and reached a unanimous decision that 5 applicants be approached.
We are very pleased to confirm that 7 candidates have accepted positions for 2016 as follows:
- Frank Rees has accepted the role of Club Head Coach for 2016. Frank has many years' experience successfully coaching at representative level in Wellington and brings considerable knowledge and experience to the club. He is relocating to Melbourne to take up this role.
- John "Patches" Eden has accepted the roles as Senior Forwards Head Coach, Club Strength & Conditioning Coach, and Junior Academy Coach. John has many years of service to the club and brings excellent coaching and S&C skills with him.
- Ben Perenise has accepted the role of the Colts Head Coach, and also Junior Academy Coach. Ben is passionate about developing the younger generation of rugby players and brings years of experience and accreditation to the club.
- Paul Pulefale and Andrew Lefao have accepted the position of U18 Coaches. Paul and Andrew have nurtured and led the U18 squad for many years and the team's success speaks for itself. Their continued contribution will be essential in supporting the continued development of the next generation of Rams players.
-Junior Favia and Turbo have accepted the role of of Womens coaches and will continue to develop our Premiership winning Ladies team.
Over the coming months before the pre-season activity, other coaches will be appointed to support this core group."
regards
Paul Gascoigne

So heard the season is kicking off on the 19th of March.

Might have to take Oztimmy and his boys to watch rugby for the day as his wife is hosting my gf baby shower and we have both been told well in advance that we need to entertain the boys.

Anyone got the draft copy of the fixture?

I have seen a draft of it, but not sure how accurate it is and it might change before the season. I think the official draw will be coming out soon enough though.

Foots v Uni
Hills v Quins
Rams v Souths
House v Melb

If I remember

Was just having a look on the community site of the Rebels to see if the draw was out yet, but nothing there. Interesting to see that only once has a team won more than 3 premierships in a row, that was Moorabbin in 1981-1986. Will be interesting to see if Quins can make it 4 in a row.

How is everyone's pre-seasons looking?

What the hell is with VRU and not being able to organize a piss up in a brewery? Play one game and than have a week off for Easter. That just seems like a complete waste to me.

Round 1 this week. It's a bit odd having 1 round and then breaking for Easter but I guess it's the only way to do it and finish in time for the NRC.

22Metri has worked on a season preview. I'll review it tonight and it should be up on the site tomorrow.

Footscray V Uni match review will be published - soon I hope. WP playing funny buggers.

Nice to see Box Hill are undefeated for season 2016 thus far!

Well done to Footscray, didn't see that coming over Uni. Any insiders from Parkville care to let us know what is going on? Slow start?

All other results as per the card. My tip is the Rams to bounce back and give it a shake this year.

Just from the teamsheets alone, it looks like the majority of players who came to Uni when Brad Mika was coaching last year have gone elsewhere now that's he left. Josh Cocker-Valu and Taiso Silafai are two who were named in other team lists, and I'm sure there's plenty more.

With the movement of coaches (e.g. Andrew Slyfield BH to Uni, John Eden EH to Moorabbin), there appears to be greater player movement between Clubs than I have seen previously.

Looks like a lot of the old guard from 'Quins have move on too, Lloyd, Justin et al. Only recognize Gus, Sione and Bill. Couldn't see Gus leaving 'Quins to play for another Club either.

Interesting - Gus was named in their run-on side last week. Justin Marsters is up here playing Shute Shield for West Harbour, off the top of my head. Quite often 'Quins use their more experienced players exclusively in the second half of the season, though I know Lloydy had interest from overseas to weigh up

Gus was there over the weekend and is captain again this year. Maradona and Pom were also there but were running water/coaching so who knows if they are injured or just taking time off. Pom is 39 this year I believe so wouldn't be surprised if he is thinking about hanging the boots up.

EH have picked up a couple of players, but I was chatting to their coach and he reckons they have lost more than they have gained. Ruben and Andy are two who have followed Patches over to Moorabbin. Moorabbin have also picked up the Noa brothers from Souths.

BH don't seem to have picked up many new guys, however they still have all the Island Breeze boys there. Apart from a M. Naivalua, who I assume is Sefa's brother, who is at Melbourne.
