I reckon the first test XI will be:

D Warner
M Renshaw
S Marsh
S Smith
P Hanscomb
M Marsh
M Wade
M Starc
S O'Keefe
J Hazlewood
N Lyon

Personally I'd have kept Khawaja and left out M Marsh.

Hopefully Mitch Marsh proves me wrong and gets some runs.

Not a strong basis for a team if a number of players get a guernsey by scoring runs against an A rated team, and the spinners take one or two wickets only. Have to say I am not confident of a good or reasonable showing in the test match, but live in hope.

I'd be inclined to go with a bowling attack of Starc, Hazelwood, Bird, Marsh and one of the spinners.

I think we're definitely going to need at least two spinners in Pune. My worry is that even if we get on top early with our quicks we are going to struggle to contain the run rate once Lyon comes into the attack. It's been clear of late (v RSA, PAK, and India A) that he is the bowler oppositions have ear-marked for easy runs.

The Mitch Marsh selection isn't really to take wickets. He's there to lessen the burden on our quicks with a few overs here and there and hopefully to score a few runs.

I can't see a situation where Bird would play in Pune over one of Lyon or SO'K. Even less likely is the all-rounder missing out.

The secret ingredient for this team to succeed is for Smith to rediscover his leg-spinning ability. Why he hasn't been pressured to revive them I'll never know.

Personally, I think it's the last thing we need against India at any venue in India. But I do concede it is very likely what we will see given the emphasis the selectors have placed on spin in the makeup of the touring group.

To my mind, Bird is the ideal backup bowler to have over there. Can bowl long spells, take wickets and has a very low strike rate against him.

Lots of rumours floating around that Australia might play Marsh and Starc and 3 spinners.

Pitch may explain why.(hasn't been mown yet).....

But the groundsman said it will have plenty in it for the seamers?! Hahahahha.

Any runs made verse the India A side means very little. The games have started and several guys need to put there hands up. I'll be extremely happy to win one test and do better than England.

Fair dues to India. Come to their home, expect to play in their home conditions.......

36 degrees and sunny for all five days. Nowhere to hide for the Aussies out there!

The only series they have played away from home for about 18 months was in the West Indies. No wonder they haven't lost a test in that time.

Hope they can expect a wake up call if they ever decide to leave their shores. Given the money they make at home they probably won't be all that keen to leave.

Just how the schedule has worked out. They are touring Sri Lanka, South Africa, England, Australia and New Zealand over the next couple of years

Who is this opening bowler for India. Says it's Sharma, but the Sharma I remember bowled a lot faster than 87/89kph. No wonder they don't like or trust technology over there in India.;)

There was a discussion on this at some point, everybody uses 3 speed guns, but they all take different measurements, Australia takes the highest one, and New Zealand takes the middle one and India takes the lowest of the Nations who were noted.

Not watching it, I don't know if that was a joke at Ishants expense or genuine commentary, but it does seem to explain the occasional 155+kph out of nowhere over here, as it would a surprisingly low reading over there.

Think it might just have been an error inputting the data. Looks to me like he was bowling around 87mph, but was entered into the computer system in the wrong column. They fixed the problem, whatever it was after about four overs.

Renshaw stood tall, hard to believe he's only 20yo. Starc is just a freak. That knock has probably put Australia just in front and hopefully we can add a few more tomorrow.

Has to be encouraging that pace was so effective on day 1.

Gee, I'm glad we picked that great sub-continental specialist Shaun Marsh.
First class average on tour of 115 :p

Imagine how crap Ussie must be looking in the nets. CA sends him over early, gets months of acclimatisation and still can't convince the selectors (Boof and Trevor Hohns on tour I believe)

The batting lineup really looks to still be underwhelming when the two Marshes are in there. Maybe they can turn things around, but I think it was a bad joke for selections to be made or confirmed on the strength of a second rate trial match played in conditions that were never going to be reproduced in the test matches.
