M Marsh couldn't make runs in Aus. No idea why they ever thought he would in India. He made no runs in the shield and should be set to pyjama cricket only for Aus.

Wade is doing worse than Neville and has had one good knock in Aus colours since taking over.

S Marsh. No thanks.

This series could spell the end of all 3 for Aus. If they haven't performed by the second test they must go. The tour game was a joke.

Lehmann needs to get over his obsession with the Marsh brothers. He seems to be constantly searching for a reason to pick them where none exists.

This spin (pardon the pun) that SMarsh is some kind of sub-continental Bradman is delusional.

By then end of the Aussie summer we had finally seemed to have a batting line up for the future in place and then we bring the Marsh boys back.

Maybe we should just pick Mitchell Starc at 6? Go you good thing!

First dismissal for Kohli for a while and it's a second ball duck!

Go Aussies!

Jeez QH, that's a bit harsh on Lehmann. I think the anger should be aimed towards Waugh who has said on air a few times already this test that he sees MMarsh as our long term 6. It's quite clear now that Marsh Snr wasn't the only bloke on the selection panel that was backing Mitch.

Lehmann would have some input in the XI but I doubt it would carry anymore weight than the captain's preference.

Personally, I think the SMarsh dismissal was exceptionally unlucky. He was looking quite comfortable and caught up with a ball down leg in his follow through. Rarely see that sort of dismissal. His wicket was compounded by Smith losing his concentration the same over. Charging down the wicket at that point in the innings was a huge error by our captain.

If there's criticism to be aimed at our batsmen, it should be the blokes in the middle order who were caught LBW to balls that did nothing special off the surface. Handscomb's dismissal was very concerning as it was obvious the plan was to catch him on the back foot with a straight ball, he fell right into the trap after getting a good start. Wade was unlucky as that ball looked to be going down leg.

Starc deserves the credit for where we stand in this test, he's really been world class.

As for the conundrum at 6 I think we just have to go with a specialist batsman. Starc looks very comfortable at 8 and if he can play the all-rounder role surely we can bolster the strength of our middle order with another bat.

How MMarsh got a place on this tour over Cartwright baffles me.

This sums up SMarsh's career.

The entire reason for his selection on this tour was his alleged genius in playing in these conditions. An extremely soft dismissal - caught at leg slip trying to sweep.

A fairly balanced view here on the SMarsh career:

Telling stat that despite some big scores, his median score is less than 20.

I'd also point out that his alleged status as a subcontinental guru is based on TWO innings in Sri Lanka in 2011.

Trying to make a case based on one isolated test is ridiculous.

At least present the full picture:

NL - 63 tests, 228 wickets @ 34 (best 7/94)

SOK - 4 tests, 14 wickets @ 32 (best 3/53)

Your perfectly entitled to your view that SOK is a better spinner than Lyon, but at test level the full picture is at best equivocal.

Hmm. I still stand by that view.

Lyon 1-15. SO'K 3-30*

*Edit: Make that 4-31.

The game position would be pretty much the same if we'd selected the chair that caught Khawaja in the practice match and batted it at 6.

Go Aussies!

Steve O'Keefe get his 5 for!

The second best spin bowling performance I've seen from an Australian in India.

The bloke in the commentary box sits atop the pile with 6/9.

Nonetheless, SO'K has gone a long way to cementing his spot as our #1 spin bowler.

What a huge session for Australia. Indian all out 105. We are well and truly in command of this test.

SO'K 6-35, Starc 2-38, Hazlewood 1/11, Lyon 1/21.

MMarsh unsighted with the ball.

And Warner is out for 10 off 6. Does he have any match awareness? Chill the fuck out Davey, you had 2 days to make as many runs as you want. That bowling display was great but I won't be confident until the lead is up around 400.

Usman must be feeling pretty robbed right now.

This will be classic Australian cricket if we throw away this lead. Hopefully Smith can play a captain's knock and put us in a stronger position. Can't expect Starc to dig us out of trouble again.

That was some batting collapse by India. Excellent display of spin bowling by SOK. He's proven your faith in him light.

EDIT: You'd like to think that we could rule a line permanently through both Marsh boys, but somehow I doubt it. I can't recall players who have failed so often being dropped and reselected only to fail again and the process goes around in a seemingly endless cycle.

If we can get this lead to 400 I'll eat my hat.

Anything over 100 here is a great performance. A chase of 250+ would pose serious problems for India.
