Seb Vettel wins the Monaco GP - first win in Monaco for Ferrari since 2001, and first 1-2 for Ferrari since the 2010 German GP. Daniel Ricciardo P3.

I don't think Alonso is gonna return to Woking - his
Honda engine failed in the Indy 500 with 20-odd laps to go

Torp - what is the issue with Honda? I gather their Indy car engines are the go to power plant but their F1 performance is woeful - probably counter productive even being there.

In 2015 (first year of McHonda partnership) McLaren designed a size-zero concept chassis to save weight. They also thought entering F1 would be easier than it was. Overall, the MP4-30 and RA615H were slow and unreliable. in 2016, they showed decent progress as it was much more reliable (went from 9th in 2015 to 6th in 2016). For this year, they abandoned the size-zero concept for the engine and chassis and built the engine to similar designs to the PU106C power unit that the Mercedes factory team uses. As a result, they are pretty much back where they started in 2015.

an article for a better understanding of why Honda built the RA617H closer to Merc PU specs: https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/...-backtracked-on-its-size-zero-concept-864854/

EDIT: Ron Dennis also said that he reckons nowadays you can only win in F1 by being a factory or factory-backed team (which is why he did the deal with Honda)

How does Honda come to know the design of the M-B engine?
Does the scrutineering make for general access to the specs/design etc?

Lewis wins the Canadian GP. Ricciardo finishes P3.

Honourable mention to Seb - was last on lap 6 and went completely bonkers, pulling off a 2-stopper to finish 4th (and was 0.7 seconds off Ricciardo in the provisional classification)

Dishonourable mention to Honda - Alonso was running in P10 (1 point) on lap 69 when his engine expired

#2 Porsche of Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber win the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans

Race TL;DR:

#2 Porsche & #8 Toyota have mechanical problems, pit for repairs, come out dead last. #7 Toyota leads from 0-12 hours until Koboyashi suffers a clutch problem after the Safety car comes in, eventually retiring. #9 Toyota gets punted off by a Manor LMP2 car, retires due to damage. #1 Porsche leads until 3 hours let, where Andre Lotterer suffers terminal engine failure. The Jackie Chan racing LMP2 car leads until getting monstered by Timo Bernhard in the #2 Porsche LMP1 on the run to Indianapolis (where Mark Webber made Mercs fly in '99). #2 Porsche doesn't do a Toyota and blow up on the last lap and wins
