So basically a group of Old Boys whining about another group of Old Boys, meanwhile.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

I recall a time when the same thing was said about Foxtel and Rugby. Stan and rugby maybe somewhat co-dependent but the issue the game has is where does any growth in value come from, Stan pretty much has any rugby supporter signed up, and the game isn't exactly in what you would describe a...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

They are only the Golden Goose when enough people choose to support them. Australian rugby has had a Wallaby first strategy for 25 years now and it hasn't exactly worked out has it. The more your domestic market declines the quicker that golden goose turns into a sick duck.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

It depends on what structure you are involved in, you could spend $20 Million on each Super rugby team and it will not make much difference as people are not interested in the competition, we've had some of worlds the best players, coaches & teams involved in this competition for 20 years. What...

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

Super Rugby has involved something like 6 countries over 5 or 6 continents, had 100' of $millions spent on it, arguably some of the best rugby players in the world playing and some of the best quality rugby teams to grace the fields yet in Australia it has barely raised interest in the game much...

    Super Rugby 2024 General Chat

It does mirror Australia somewhat, in nz where an independent review showed the board not fit to run a professional sport and needed to be replaced, yet the board has chosen not to implicate that recommendation, RA anyone. My whole point about Super Rugby compared to the NRL/AFL is those...

    Super Rugby 2024 General Chat

Not to mention the season here has to start early February that year, nothing like a February game of Rugby Suncorp in 100% humidity and the small issue of the other 6 Super Rugby teams who's business model that year will run for 4 months, with mad Monday in June.

Agreed, but the whole psyche of RA and rugby is Global thinking & that pervades it. Super Rugby was all about taking over the world, we were suppose to have Asian & American conferences by now (someone else was always gonna pay for our rugby). The RA walk around with stars in there eyes and...

    Australian Rugby / RA

My disappointment with this interview was more the lack of real change advocated, I agree with him regards the expenditure and spending money the code doesn't have, but that is a result of 20 years of stagnant growth domestically, but still living the same old lifestyle. Its okay to have a...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Rugby's business model is the issue with the code here, a sport run by a committee who get replaced by another committee who make decisions that will always benefit whatever committee is at the table. Unlike the NRL & AFL these are business models driving there sport they adapt, change as...

I would also suggest by Grassroots that is also the failure to grow the domestic product, rugby maybe different that the NRL/AFL but it specifically chose a structure different than those two opposing codes, and quite clearly this was a bad decision 20 years after they had that option. The...

My first thought was are you serious, but you may have a point add an element of risk, my only caveat would be the marker should be forced to play on quickly, tap & go. not allow for a slow build up of the defense line, keep the game moving.

And we should be employing two to three times as many players and coaches as we currently do. But next year we won't have a professional rugby team in Melbourne but we will have $400 Lions tickets and enough red wine dinners to fund a small pacific nation.

It does not matter Half who is in charge it is the structure of the game here that is the issue, the business model does not work or it actually does work at a limited level but at the same time the game goes broke. Until you have a better business model (and we all know what that is) all a...

    Australian Rugby / RA

So come next year when the Rebels fade into the sunset, the RA can point to pretty much zero % growth over the last 20 years, and a bank loan of some $40/50 million give or take a few as no one seems to actually know. Ironic really that the only tangible growth they can point to is due to...

I agree they are protecting there asset the World Cup, and yes the money that comes from that is important, but sacrificing everything to chase that so called pot of gold is partly why we are in the current mess.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Well if World Rugby are stepping in then the game here is more stuffed than we ever thought, and apparently now they are appointing our coaches. Rugby in Australia is in trouble because for 20 years it has neglected its own domestic market, hell the Argentinians are gonna save us now next year...

    Super Rugby 2024 General Chat

They should have upgraded the NPC when the game went professional instead of Super rugby. NZ is now starting to see the effects of introducing Super Rugby without addressing the underlying platform that already existed. Don't get me wrong they have done a far better job the Aus but Rugby being...
