You are correct, but it happens all the time. People would perhaps worry if a certain Schools eight was all in the sudden competitive

    2016 Schools rowing

Both Syd Uni and Sydney have assembled a group of GPS folks to go to the AUS U19 trials. Most of those entered at Nationals in the prospect boat class. Examples are Syd Uni: 2 doubles and quad with a Riverview and Scots sculler, Sydney entered one half of the Shore 1st VIII in a U19 quad, which...

    2016 Schools rowing

Some one earlier wrote that St Aug, Cranbrook & Co need GPS, but GPS don't need them. I guess here is a change. I have seen those schools and Redlands, Kinross at Small Boat Regatta, racing in ACT and other Club events i.e. St Aug in MB4- at Reindeer etc....H&C is inconvenient for most sheds...

    2015 Schools Rowing

Interesting NSW School Boy/U19 results at Nationals I agree that Nudgee had a great row. My view is that they can improve big time for how much water they are still missing at catch. As for Junior selections it could be possible, that they are going if they can mobilze the boys and get around...

    2015 Schools Rowing

No, a Yr 9 and a Yr 10 quad crew have been joined in an eight, which has been entered as a SB3rd VIII. They did a 6:33. They also rowed at the State Champs, where the MU17 8+ and SB 3rd eight race have been merged. That's how they know how fast they were going. Travelling from Orange they...

    2015 Schools Rowing

Kinross' "3rd VIII" is made up of rowers from the 1st Yr 9 quad and their 2nd Yr 10 quad. They should have entered the Yr 10 eights, where with 6:33 they are in the ball park, particular with four Yr9 rowers

    2015 Schools Rowing

That is an interesting thought, but I share your skepticism. It would be a precedence and would have implications on other sports as well. However the school sport landscape has changed since 1893 and non-GPS schools have invested heavily in rowing as well (i.e. Kinross, Redands, St Augustine's...

    2015 Schools Rowing

Talking SB 1st Four race, St Augustine's won with their junior rep Zac van Appen, but with three year 10 boys from their Yr 10 eight, who raced only 20 odd min before. They switched the three rowers on the water after the finish line and rowed straight back up for their next race. Great story I...

    2015 Schools Rowing

Hi Barry, that is interesting. I tried to find the definition of 'season' in the LoBR. When GPS adopts the RNSW rules the season for RNSW isd different to GPS. Also for RNSW the age is based on the age on the 31st of Dec that year. Which means if a schoolboy turns 19 in the calender year when...

Hmm - agree with the good coach comment, but challenge how he performs in an GPS environment and coaching an eight is different to U17 quads and SB fours at nationals.

    GPS (NSW) Rowing 2014

I have heard some more, that they have a second son coming through St Aug as well, which might keep them at the school for a while. The squad is only that four and two quads in Yr8 and 9. It will never compete against a full GPS program, but they seem to develop quality crews with limited...

    GPS (NSW) Rowing 2014

Thank you for the insight, good to see that a non traditional rowing school invests in the sport. Looks like a lot of coaching horse power for a small school.

Thanks for the summary, really good background. I have seen Kinross building over the years, but where is St Augustines coming from? I have never seen them before. Obviously very small program but I have noticed they had a great season.

Agree on the difficulty dealing with the masters wannabees. I think by your standards, SBH 1st 8+ should really be competing in the 2nd or 3rd VIII races. Coz, the distance is usually 45sec plus to the first.

    GPS (NSW) Rowing 2014

It might be a stretch for pure school regattas, as there is the expectation that school sports should be done an dusted before 12PM. For club regattas it would work if they get rid of all masters events, I don't know why they have been allowed on SIRC during prime season. They can race 1000m...

    GPS (NSW) Rowing 2014

This issue of starting in the right grade could all be prevented, if we all start racing heats and A-X finals. That way crews of same capability start against each other, no more procession races. In our discussion KWS would have been in the right final same as all others. There might be...

    GPS (NSW) Rowing 2014

In re to Kinross rowing 3rd VIII: Look at their program that day, same rowers raced SB 1st & 2nd IV and MU19 4+. Their 1st IV clocks times around the 6:46 mark. The eight is clearly their second priority and it was their third race that day. They travel quite a bit from Orange and try to...

What is the priority at the Shore sheds beyond the 1st VIII? It looks they are fielding the 1st IV first before the 2nd VIII to keep Ubergang happy?
