I've just published the first in a five part series looking at the likely Lions team the Wallabies will face, the threats they will pose and how the Wallabies may counter those threats,
To show you what I think the Wallabies can expect there's a video with each part.
In part 1 I look at the...
Remember back in February when there was lots of excitement that the Lions test tickets had sold out in 15 minutes?
Well it turns out 'sold' wasn't quite right! Bill Pulver is now quoted by Greg Growden as saying:
Here's the announcement from the ARU in February and it's clear that we'll...
Overnight the IRB confirmed that the new scrum laws that have been trialled this year in the Pacific Rugby Cup will come into place in a twelve month global trial commencing at the start of the season in each hemisphere.
The changes can be summarised as follows:
The packs will still crouch as...
Will Genia has made further comments regarding Quade Cooper.
Genia doesn't actually talk about selections for the Wallabies but should players be voicing their opinions on other players and should Robbie Deans take any notice of what one of his key players think?
I've just published an article on the ARU's finances which reveals how dire the financial position was at the end of 2012. The hole the ARU has dug can only be fixed by the windfall from the Lions tour!
You can also see where the money went that could have been used to develop our game...
It's not Steve Walsh and it's not Jonathan Kaplan. It's James Leckie!
I've published the full list here http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/how-many-penalties-can-steve-walsh-find-in-a-match/
The referee awarding the least number of penalties is Glen Jackson. Craig Joubert and Chris Pollock are...
I think the increased use of the TMO is a real positive - it helps reduce the possibility of a "howler" determining the outcome of a game and it's not taking too long to get decisions.
Most of the instances I've seen it used have been to check specific issues the referee or assistant referees...
There's been some discussion in other threads as to who are the penalty magnets amongst forwards in Australian teams.
Here are the forwards with the highest numbers after 7 rounds (according to Sportsdata):
G.Holmes - 10 (82%)
S. Higginbotham - 9 (96%)
E. Quirk - 8 (97%)
B. Mowen - 7 (100%)...
In their first three matches this season the Brumbies were averaging 9 offloads per match. Then in their match against the Sharks they offloaded 22 times, although 18 of those were in the first half when they played some of the best attacking rugby we've seen for a while.
Since then the...
I’ve said it before but the Wallabies need at least three primary lineout jumpers and a fourth jumper as at least a backup option. If you’ve only got two primary jumpers, you’ll struggle to win lineout ball and that affects whether you can attack or not.
Nothing shows that more than how the...
When selecting a backrow I believe you've got to get the balance right and my views on the role of each player are:
#6 - must be one of your front line lineout jumpers together with your two locks - should be the only wide running forward, call them a seagull if you like but they should be...
I thought I'd migrate some comments that appeared on the end of the Reds v Brumbies thread into a new thread as I think this issue deserves its own thread and will be ongoing as we see how the trial of the new call and the new interpretations develop.
Yes, I'm quoting myself in some of these...
Here's a link to a new weekly segment we're going to be running - watch the two clips and you tell us what was your favourite moment - http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/you-choose-episode-1/
There's been plenty of discussion (and I'm sure there'll be more) on the Who Should Be The New CEO thread but the decision's been made - it's Bill Pulver as the new CEO, hence this new thread.
Start date of February 1 - let's allow him a day to get his feet under the desk but what should be on...
Steve Hansen recently said he thought Robbie Deans might not have really wanted the All Blacks job and had probably already accepted the Wallabies position by the time of his interview with the NZRU.
I stumbled across this radio interview with Robbie Deans recorded shortly after the NZRU had...
My latest article looking at the candidates for Wallabies #10.
http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/who-should-run-the-wallabies-attack/
Let the debate begin (again)!
The New Zealand Herald have just produced numbers for the All Blacks in 2012 comparing statistics against a range of countries - seethe article here. I don't think there's anything new about the Wallabies numbers included in that analysis but it's interesting to compare against a range of...
In the latest G&GR podcast George Gregan told Matt that the ARU board was working on an updated strategic plan and it had been a while since the last update. In commenting on the announcement of John O’Neil’s resignation Michael Hawker said he “has achieved the key objectives of a five-year...
