I've had to come out of retirement for this thread. I've seen some political BS in my time, but the decision to have another trial for the 17s is the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed. From all reports, and scorelines Manly absolutely owned this year's comp. NOBODY in SYDNEY came close to...
Young Gun, the village clubs do far more to nurture the juniors than the senior clubs do. It just so happens that the majority of Gordon's junior reps have historically come from either Chatswood or Hunters Hill. Hunter's Hill is now a North's feeder club, no longer a Gordon one. This might...
There was a Manly Roos/Norths Pirates U17 team in the village comp which disbanded due to the fact that all bar about 3 of the team were Norths Pirates Under 16s backing up from their previous game. This was mainly due to a miscommunication about the ability to field a team and Manly based...
Northern Suburbs 3rd grade colts have secured the services of some of their top U16 players for next season. I'm told they are playing a one off game against NSW Country U18s today (Saturday). If anyone is watching the game would be interested to hear how the 16 year olds get on, particularly...
I would love to see some pressure applied from NSWSJRU or ARU or whoever to put together an elite Sydney schools competition running for a full season over and above the GPS, CAS and ISA comps to give us a top grade competition. Who knows, it may even be seen as worth putting on TV like they do...
Tigs, I'm hearing that the SJRU preparations are something of a shambles with cancelled training sessions, players not turning up and 'senior' players calling the plays. On the flip side I hear schools have been religiously training 3 times a week. Schools will absolutely thrash them in their trial.
Norths would be required to have not picked the HH guys and given them dispensation, which is fine and again within the rules. I did hear that the long term Gordon players wanted to stay with Gordon and Norths were going to allow this, which is fair enough. Not sure what applied to the newer...
I'm sure they would have indeed signed on/played the required 4 games, either this year, or last year for a different club (or indeed the same club as there may have been HH guys who didn't make Gordon last year) and this would be within the rules. That some of these guys may have only played...
Unfortunately I couldn't get to the 16A game between Norths and Hawkesbury however Leicester Tiger's summation seems fair from what I am hearing. Also hearing that the ref was perhaps a significant contributor to the result. Merrylands to take the title easily in my opinion.
On another note, in...
My reflections on today's SJRU A grade semis finals... Let me start by saying that my info on the Norths team was pretty crap, they looked at full strength to me.
Game 1 - Norths 20 v Hills 5: Possession is the key word here. Hills looked threatening every time they got the ball particularly...
Newbs, I asked if you knew anything about this back in post 1428. They have had one point less for a while. I can only assume that they turned up to a game without a qualified touchie (which costs a point this season).
Shinsplits,
They have struggled this year to get their strongest team on the paddock, State Champs being the first time, and last time apparently. Looks like I might have been wrong with regard to them being at full strength. I'm told Max didn't play last weekend (shoulder injury) so probably...
Kiwi,
to qualify for the finals series a player has to have played 50% of the games in the regular season. Dispensation is also available for things such as injury which, I believe, is judged on a case by case basis. My understanding is that 'played' means signed in rather than taken to the...
Of course I will furnish you with a report Newbs, seeing as you asked so nicely!
The five eight battle will indeed be interesting. Both are first class but I prefer Cale slightly, less flashy but more dependable I'd say. Some good battles in the other game too, particularly Matson v Williams...
For anyone interested... According to Buddha the Under 16A Sydney club semi finals are being played at the same venue on Sunday, Wakehurst Rugby Park. Should be some good footy and no Sydney game so all teams should be at full strength. Hills v Norths at 11:50 and Merrylands v Hawkesbury at...
