    2016 Schools rowing

This recent string of messages is rather petty indeed. Maybe the boys should spend more time training and less time accusing others of stacking based off times... Races are won through hard work and nothing else as we all know. When race day comes, ergs/sculling/combination doesn't matter, its...

Looking at the splits in the last 500, it appears that Kings sped up while Scots stayed the same. With Kings pulling the second fastest last 500 in the field and with everyone else getting slower, I'd put it down to a good finish from the Kings boys. The same can be said for them in the heat. I...

Agreed again LTR and JCL, While I don't mean to discredit the effort of the boys involved, it simply isn't fair when a school enters a crew in a lower division. It's a different story in rugby when we're talking about safety, and I see no problem with High and Grammar playing in the 3rd XV...

    2016 Schools rowing

I think LTR is trying to compare a 50kg cox with a 58kg cox by imagining that the extra 8kg of dead weight on the cox is distributed to each rower. Its like saying "58kg cox with 80kg rowers" versus "50kg cox with 81kg rowers" (where that extra kilo on each rower is dead weight) - the boats...

Clearly an interesting set of results from the morning! Some bizarre times amongst the Shore IVs though, with their 4th IV the fastest of their squad. Can anyone share details on the conditions throughout the morning? Based off the times alone I'd assume that it swung from a tail to a head...

    2016 Schools rowing

Looks like we'll see each race twice this weekend with a heat and final for every GPS event. It seems every school has come out to play. St Josephs, Shore, Scots and St Ignatius all have good depth to their squads, with more than enough cattle to fill out all their races. It's a different...

    2016 Schools rowing

In light of recent discussion on the future of High rowing, here are my thoughts: It is certainly possible for any school to be successful in the GPS competition. History has shown that every school has had their time in the spotlight: High in the '20s, Newington in the '90s, Kings in the...

The draw for the Loreto regatta is on the RNSW website. Very limited GPS turnout as expected. -M
