I would suggest he's also trying to save his front line bowlers too.

He played with Smith and like Snor in rugby Smith made him his muppet. Once that dont work out he went on the chicken run to Australia.

Geez I'd take his coaching career over most others in international cricket.

I'm pretty sure the pitch is not really going to deteriorate much further. If we hadn't lost that days play (the one and only day I bloody get tickets for too mind you!) maybe the pitch wouldn't be so flat and hard, but I don't know. The curators were standing out in the rain having a smoke on Saturday, I was tempted to ask them how they felt about the pitch. Wish I had.

Aussies starting to really ramp up the run rate now. Maybe Clarke does want a couple of overs against the SA top order. Has to hurry though, I don't think they can play past 5:30.

Clarke gets his double ton. What a player.

EDIT: Apparently it's his third for the year. Wow!

If I were Clarke I'd be swinging hard until they got a lead of around 150. Hopefully they can get there before lunch tomorrow. Then they have two and a bit sessions to try and skittle the Saffers. Very unlikely to happen, but if they take a couple of early wickets then you never know.

they just mentioned on the radio that clarke is only the second player in test match history to score 3 double hundreds in a calander year. The only other man to do so... Bradman

Hopefully this will end the rubbish that is written and spoken about Clarke as a batsman. Since he became captain his game has reached a whole new level. It's quite astounding. He practically defines leading from the front now.

3 more hours and it might have been possible. A draw was always the best bet after day 2 and the Proteas played like it. Suspect both sides will be fired up for the next one so hopefully it makes for an interesting second test.

Was also great to see a fast bowler get agro again. Smith was justified to step away but the response from Pattinson worked a treat and he got his man. Been a long time since that has happened. Kid looks good.

It was really only going to be a draw today but I think the boys will be fairly happy after that fightback. Too much time lost in the end.

I really like the kid as well. Talks the talk, and has so far walked the walk as well. I don't think Smith expected Pattinson to come so hard at him.

Clarke act selfish after not declaring yesterday 20 overs before the end of play. That would left Australia with enough time to knock the Cricket Bokke over. The Cricket Bokke will now go into the second one with no pressure and in better shape. Faf to replace JP, Tahir for Kleinveldt and probably Tsokoli for Rudolph. This will release AB from wickey duties and our attack will be balanced.

True, pre match the press was really talking up the South Africans, and telling us all that we would be smashed. Adelaide should be a cracker of a match.

What I also really like is the fact that Clarke will never die wondering. He always steps onto the field figuring out how he can win. The Aussies are starting to find their feet again, and a good hard series against the South Africans will put us in good stead for Sri Lanka and then the Ashes. Good timing actually.. the pommies have held the Ashes for far too long. They should never be allowed to hold the Ashes for more than one series. :)
