Crikey - he was in the Oz U/19 team last year and had a decent game at Weigall against the England Schools team but I wouldn't be looking at a young bloke like him as a THP in Super rugby.

I'd take a THP from the Shute Shield any day - someone like Fa'amausili of Eastwood or McMickan of Easts if they don't want to use Eddie Aholelei. They're not world beaters but would be better than a young shaver, I reckon..

Yes it probably is too soon.

Mind you, James Slipper debuted at 20 for the Reds.

Interesting comment qwerty, I've taken a liking to this age group since the 08 16's at St Joeys Nudgee and tend to sit on the fence with my assessment of nsw/qld players. I was impressed by the size of all locks on the day of the academy "friendly" match and chose to watch rather closely, I'm interested to see what you're basing this on?
In what regard did they outplay the sydney 4/5? I have an opinion of my own but would like to hear your thinking first

Regarding stolberg, he was not one of the two run on locks that started. The starting pair were Blake Enever and Tim Buchanan. Stolberg came on in the second team partnering Curtis Browning at lock.

Not a lot of players with Super Rugby experience which is good.

Henry Taefu is back from league?

Pretty decent looking squad I think. Pretty young but they should be better prepared this year due to being in the academies.

Did Taefu go to Churchie a couple of years ago? If so, was pretty impressive then.

William Skelton is a lock. James Dargaville is an outside back usually a centre. Guy Millar is a prop generally THP. Ben Melrose is a lock or flanker. Byron Hodge is a lock

I wonder if they take some of the younger lads down for a look for the following year and to supply a team for the serious contenders to play against!

Yeah same bloke. He was a 12 I think - same build as tapuai.

I didn't think he was anything special - but I only saw him play twice. He was a good goal kicker though.

Played against those two at first 15 level. About 6 foot 7 when they were 17 haha. Good to see they kept playing, got the size to be very good second rowers.

Who have we lost through injury?

I know Mitch Felsman (Brothers), Joel Faulkner (Easts) and Jack Kimmince (Easts) are gone for the season.

Isn't Joel a year older. He was selected last year and did his shoulder just after the squad was announced.

Recieved some feedback from camp 2 and apparently Byron Hodge did well in the tight in the internal played on wedesday at the AIS. I'm a fan of his 10/20 defence and b/down work although at times he can get a little predictable with his carries, not always overly effective but a hard worker none the less.

I'll throw a cat amongst the pigeons now and declare that Hodge should be taken on tour over Stolberg. I know it probably won't pan out this way due to Stolberg being in an academy and probably given preference due to the time and money the ARU have invested however I think that if the Aus coaches are serious about being a threat they should pick players on form and at the moment it seems to me like Stolberg lacks a little in the heart department. If he is playing premier grade in brisbane he should be looking to dominate this age group and from all reports he wasn't too impressive.

On another note, strong performances from both flyhalves Godwin and UJ as well as centres Crook and Hingano. Backline could be sharp come June however they will need to beef up 1-3 if they want to trouble the kiwis at scrum time.
