Congratulations Stannies win over Daramalan 78-7. Semi final between Stannies vs Oakhill this week. It's fast becoming harder for key Rugby schools to find willing opposition.

Oaks will have too really earn their stripes this year, playing against Stannies, who by the look of that score may be running into some late season form,.....again in the Warratah Shield. Oaks only just squeaked home against them a couple of weeks ago. This will be following their ISA championship match against Pats, a team that will not be looking to nurse Oaks into any championship spots
I wonder why Pats chose not to compete in the Waratah Shield this year?

Where are NFJ and other associated Rugby celebrities now?

They seemed to be rather vocal about a blow out score in a competition that is run by a school association with which NSW RU have influence over.

The Waratah Shield/Cup is directly sponsored by the NSW RU in conjunction with NSW Schools RU. A competition that they have some skin in warrants no public comment when there are blow out scores, and many forfeits.

Ah Daramalan , another once strong rugby school akin to St Pats (Now Trinity) and Chev (both the former lost boarding) that went by the wayside when the entire school went co-ed. Not surprised by that result at all seeing their results in the ACT JRU 18 comp.

For the last couple of years both semis have been on at the same ground.

When, where and at what time is this game on?

And who are the two teams in the other semi?

The Augustines v Hills game kicks off at 2.10pm. I assume that the other game would be before that to give Stannies time to get home. Sorry can't help any further.

Update from the oakhill rugby facebook page, must have been a great game.

The game was a thriller but a lot of mistakes and dropped ball. Student supporters from both sides made for a great atmosphere. Stannies must be wondering what they have to do to beat Oakhill who have twice now come from behind to win the game.

Stannies came out firing and you would have thought the red bull had been flowing on the bus ride up as they had plenty or energy. Stannies game plan was fairly simple, keep possession and starve the Oakhill backs. They pulled this off near perfect the first 20 mins with a number of repeat phases. Surprisingly Oakhill allowing them to do this without committing many forwards to the ruck. The constant repeat phase play tired the Oakhill defence but it was the overlaps in the backline that allowed Stannies to cross the line.

I can't recall all the try's but it was basically try for try throughout the game. Stannies were counter rucking well and forwards worked well as a pack but the Oakhill pack remained solid and repelled the attacking waves. With all the early defence in the first half the Oakhill boys were not getting to the rucks in time and turning the ball over but Oakhill were hanging in there and not allowing Stannies to get out of reach. With 20 mins to go the Oakhill team hit the lead for the first time. Surely this would break Stannies and turn the tide towards Oakhill. Nope. Stannies kept on coming and took the lead back with only 12 minutes to go.

With less than 3 minutes to go and both teams spent, Oakhill down 27-21, run an attack down the sideline...drop the ball. Ahh that was surely their last chance. With about 1 minute remaining they get the ball back. Stannies player yellow carded. Finally the Oakhill forwards clicked into gear and started cleaning out the Stannies forwards to keep possession. Where was this the whole game? They marched down the field. Siren sounds and penalty to Oakhill. They needed to keep possession and they did. Committing forwards to the ruck and spinning the ball from left and then right. Another penalty to Oakhill. Stannies were defiant in defence. It did not look like they were going to crack. With some further phase play and a pass fired to the #10 who saw a gap and sidestepped from about 15 metres out to the tryline next to the posts. Goddard calmly kicking it over and Oakhill celebrating. Stannies players slumped on the ground in disbelief. They gave it everything. A tough tough loss. The game ended a good 4 minutes after the final siren. Final score 28-27.

Auggies were up 19-5 against Hills when I left. I Look forward to the Grand Final.

Oakhill are blessed with their kicker Goddard.
He is also in the Australian Schoolboys team despite his young age.
A talent to watch in the future.

St Augustines 34-14 6 tries to 2
Their goal kicker answered my suggestion that Sts do not have a kicker with a perfect conversion of their first of 6 tries from 5 from the side . Of the four missed one hit the upright and another charged down with the chasers starting while the kicker was still moving back.
I don't recall seeing a third try for Hills.
