View have followed suit
RNSW should probably have gone down the path of cancelling schoolboy events, as they did with u16 and u19

Cancelling the Schoolboy events would entail the Queensland and Victorian not racing which would be ridiculous due to planning, transporting of the boys ect.

Well, as I mentioned earlier it is down to the individual club or school to decide; however if you are currently in western Sydney, MHD, you would understand that cancelling is far from ridiculous. Obviously NSW champs are crucial for selection qualification for many senior NSW rowers, so they would all wish to continue the scheduled programme as fully as possible. As far as interstate schools, entries only closed a short time ago and the forecast heatwave was public knowledge by then - indeed, we were already in the grip of its early stages. The Qld and Vic schools had the opportunity to pull the pin. Sure, it's painful, but better than risking tragedy. Once they are here, if RNSW decides to cancel, they must accept that the wisdom of that would outweigh the cost and inconvenience to schools who travelled long distances. "They bought their tickets....they knew what they were getting in to...."

What would happen if HOTR was a scorcher? Would they can the Event? Don't think so, rowers need to race in all conditions, anything can happen!

Surely there is a Plan B in case of severe lightning, scorching heat, viscous winds, or a dead cow in the SIRC course?
Even the Olympic rowing at Rio didn't go ahead as planned.

Statistically speaking, a dead cow in the sirc course, even lighting is unlikely.

In case of wind over a certain velocity, the lanes are redrawn at the HOTR. High temps seem to be rare in March, particularly in week 3. Any hoo, any opinions over the results. Strong performances south of the border. And North. Is the GPS under siege?

Shore will once again be a sure thing. Hope I don't nod off. The real interest will be in how Scots fares now that KT has taken his act to a different circus; how View goes without its resident mute; whether Joeys recovers from last week's catastrophe and what if anything New can offer in 2017.

Very exciting racing at kings/plc!
Shore dominating with a 5:53!
Newington 5:58 and second after the shocker last week!!
Joeys cracking at the finish to come third, Kings rowing well, Scots and Iggies fighting it out for a close finish and Sydney Boys where did they come from 6:08 and 5th at the K, great to see them in the mix and competitive again!!

Anyone else notice the the lane draw corresponding with finishing place in the 1st VII race? 5,4,3,2,6,7,8,9

Pray tell.

I was referring to what must have been a disappointing result in 1st VIII at State.

Meanwhile I'm reliably informed on the BRO-vine that today's IGSSA draw was an absolute shitfight. The letter of the law may have been kept, but the spirit of the rules was thrown overboard.

Are you referring to the Queenwood quad which was entered in the seconds divisions with no firsts crew?
(Something which is permitted if you have two eights)

That's par for the course with Queenwood and probably didn't even raise an eyebrow. No, apparently the substitutions reached epic proportions. I don't know if it was one school or several, but it involved multiple crews all employing the 50% rule to the absolute hilt. Hard to believe it was all due to illness and injury. It made for a Kafkaesque paperwork nightmare for officials trying to identify crew members at the start line.

After the SRC regatta on the weekend, quite a bit has become clearer.

No-one will get past Shore in 1st VIII, very unlikely to have much opposition in 2nd VIII either.

In lower placings and other divisions, the field has opened up, mainly due to SJC having a Barry Crocker this year and Kings making a startling improvement across the board.

Gold Cup shaping up to be the traditional wet and woolly nightmare.

Shame that Joeys aren't as strong this year. Shore should win HOTR though the Nationals will be a real test for them with MGS and Scotch looking stronger, the former stronger at this stage.

The biggest turnaround seems to be Joeys Yr10 1st VIII. Were easily the best crew before Xmas and bow have a fight on their hands. Will be some good racing over the next 2 years in this age group with J, I and E all vying.
