Historic day for View to break a 43 year old drought with an unbelievable row. Fours also did amazingly well with wins in the 2nd and 4th ivs. Huge credit to all the shed. Special mention to Mike Doyle for executing a program over the last 3 years that has delivered the ultimate prize...he is an amazing operator.

Surprised to see shores 1st junior VII lose out to kings after being 5 seconds ahead of kings at the SRC regatta, well done kings ! Also great to see Scots pull through for the third in the event, what happened to joeys and riverview?. A lot of changes have occurred at the scots shed and i'm predicting great things for next season

What did I say guys, I knew there would be upset in the 1st VIII division.
You've got to give credit to Riverview, they rowed fantastically well to keep up with Shore and then push ahead in the last 250. But what about that first junior eight's race, Kings from behind to topple Shore.

Is this the end of Shore senior squad dominance?

Wel well well , my prediction was right. View have been cracking the whip all year and truly deserved to win the big dance. Looks like shore can't always get the job done, having lost their first race since 2015 HOTR, and considering their poor results in the Yr10 viii last year and 4s this year, their success next year definitely looks dim

    I saw that.
They have had false dawns ion the junior eights a number of times.
Not sure why the whole school has to go out there to watch 3(?) races.

Was therr in the 90s when sgs had trouble filling fours from yrs 11 and 12 and used yr 10 rowers. In 1991 as a one off sgs 1st jnr eights was best of yr 10 rowers. we beat shore at gold cup full of yr 11 rowers.
Maybe some hope for next season if juniors come thru.

Though I go for Shore, absolutely fantastic to see View win the 1st VIII. Well done to the boys and school.

Its great for GPS rowing to see other schools win and encourage all the sheds to believe they can do it.

Having said that I hope Shore win next year :)

Anyone got a better video of the race?

This one very amateur, but all I can find using Google.

NSW and Shore victorious at Aussies. Three Shore boys in the Kings Cup crew - all of whom had dads in the Shore 1st 8 (and who represented NSW).

There weren't many crews at the Nationals this year, anyone know why ? Hopefully not a sign of the times...

While Iggies weren't there, looked to be another race between Shore and Scotch Vic. Some redemption for the boys from North Sydney after the HOTR.

Low entries have many reasons. VIC had their HOTR on the same weekend and only a few bothered to fly up. NSW schools, seem to focus on smaller boats for the boys who are interested. As you say, it was still high quality although low numbers.

I agree the SB 8+ was great. A highlight for me was the Junior 8+ win of St Aug. I watch them building for a while and they heard the gods to move from the fours to the eights. Times were not fast though, but still the fastest juniors in NSW.

I dabbled in Victorian 1st 8 rowing at school and it blows my mind when there are three boys from the same schoolboy boat in the Kings Cap squad.

I understand there is an SRC crew with assorted GPS boys as well as a Mosman crew with a mix of GPS and St Aug boys
