Big call on the Lauries and Villa boys. 6 out of 15 from teams with two wins from five rounds and none from two teams with four wins from five.

Mate, don't let him work you up, John Dickens is either having a joke or is a joke!
he has got a prop on the wing and if anyone has seen Emosi play it become very clear he is not capable of "he glides past defenders with incredible pace"

An entertaining game at Ashgrove today but St Peters deserved winners. They made the most of their opportunities and defended well when it counted and were very enthusiastic all game.Ashgrove had numerous chances but failed to convert these to points.A lot of dropped ball and half chances not taken advantage of,they seem to have trouble consolidating their gains. All in all a top game.Looks like a big game for the equal premiership for St Peters against Padua in the final round.

Peters Vs Marist

A very emotional and enjoyable game to watch. It was very intense, rough, tough and a very close game with both sides giving it there all. Marist scoring their first try on the 10th minute establishing that they want this win however a strong and fearful comeback from Peters towards the end with a 19-22 victory.

Peters seems to have a very small forward pack however they are very compact and strong in scrums. Pushing above their weight they were able to push past a bigger Marist scrum winning the ball multiple times. I believe from what I saw not a single ball in the scrum was given to Marist that easily as they were pushed at least 2 meters back every time. Marist however were very strong in the lineouts, winning most of Peters balls. Big runs from Emosi Tiquri however was stopped by Peters forwards. Tiquri still needs to work on technique cause his every move was tracked down by the Peters boys. IMO he is given to much publicity only for his size. Number #2 from Peters played a very important game, setting the scrum at exceptional height and for a big guy, lifted his intensity every time. #2 definitely is to watch out for. Number #6 from Peters dominated every line with his tackles and number #11 Matty Abrahems left winger was very aggressive in the game, lifting the Peters boys. Peters #9 and #10 also played a very smart game.

As a Marist supporter, I was very happy with how the Peters boys played, With team work and honor for their college. For AIC Predictions I would suggest giving the Peters boys a look and chance, definitely the underdogs for this season.

Hard to believe no Pat's players in the mix? Watched them play Lauries yesterday and they certainly were the dominate side. Some big hits from the Pat's pack and some strong running from their No 12 seemed to be the difference. Not sure about the Lauries 15 making AIC - he seemed unsure what to do with the ball when he got it - ran sideways rather than direct. Just my opinion! Good players from Lauries yesterday 1, 6,7,9, 10. St Pats - whole pack (except the out of condition prop) centres especially 12 as well as 10. By the way Pats won 28 - 12.

Pretty sure SLC won the 2nds...only saw the second half and SLC scored a couple of tries...game finished early due to an injured St Pat's player - who I think walked off...Don't know the score but SLC won the 16A's easily - sorry can't help with the thirds!

First post on this blog so be kind.

Went down to Ashgrove on Sat to watch the boys play Peters hoping for a Marist win and was surprised by the difference in the size of the packs. Thought Marist would roll over the top of the Peters lads and set the foundation for the backs to cut loose. Not so. From the first scrum Peters set the tone and had the Ash pack on roller skates - I thought maybe this was an anomaly and sense would prevail but not at all. The Peters pack punched well above their weight and totally dominated the Ash 8 all game, except a few pick and drives when Ash made good ground and scored the first try. Other than that the Peters 8 were magnificent and actually pushed the Ash scrum off the ball 5 meters from the Ash line allowing their backs to spread wide and send the left winger over. Not long after the kick off the left winger again cut loose, combined with his 13 and followed up to score under the posts for one of the best tries I have seen in AIC rugby. There seems to be a problem with the Ash pack as a cohesive unit as they were counter rucked off the ball a number of times. Ash dominated the lineouts (as they should have as their locks towered over their opposites) but apart from that they were dominated in all other facets, and particularly out enthused by a very determined Peters pack. The backs from both sides squandered opportunities, with Ash looking too apprehensive at times. The experiment bringing up the 16A's 10 failed and the Ash 9 had a shocker with his passing game putting undue pressure on the 10 all game. If it wasn't for De Flavis at 12 deciding to take matters into his own hands and scoring and setting up a try, and generally being outstanding, the result would have been a lot worse.

Full credit to Peters, they deserved the win as they wanted it more. Enjoyable game but can't help but think Ash have believed the hype at the start of the season and expect things to go their way. Doesn't work that way lads.

Interesting to talk to someone in the know down Ashgrove way that a few big heads in the team maybe needed to be pulled into line a while ago, but weren't, and the seeds have now been sown. Shame.

As for an AIC XV, from the games I have seen Padua will dominate the selections, particularly 1-8, with (from all accounts) Pats, with maybe Ash 5 if he can pick up his workrate. Peters 11 and 12 should make it, and maybe 2. Not sure on 9, De Flavis has to be 10, 13 (you tell me) The Padua 15, and maybe Cooper (Ash) on the right wing as he knows the way to the line (scored a great try on Sat when he had no right to). No way known Tuqiri should be there and anyone picking him has no idea. His Scrummaging and workrate are poor.

St Peters definitely had the smaller pack and dominated the scrums, there defence was impenetrable as Ashgrove hardly broke the line. It could have been a different result as just as Ashgrove were gaining momentum in the last 10 minutes the touchy put his flag out and said there was a late hit and the momentum changed back to St Peters. St peters seemed like they wanted it more and thats simply why they won.

In the 16 A's Ashgrove dominated throughout the whole game and won 88-0. St peters did not make a tackle all day and everytime marist touched the ball they scored or made a line break. We all know the St peters team will be completely different next year as they will buy their self a new team but that Ashgrove 16 A's has a lot of potential and they are currently the favourites to take out the premiership next year.

Ashgrove were favourites last year and this year to take the flag, but that hasn't happened. First XV is a whole new game of rugby compared to all the other age groups in AIC. That was proven this year especially, with Ash only losing their first game of As rugby for this age group last year against Padua, and now they've dropped 2 this year, potentially 3 if the darkhorse of St Pats knock them off next round. Peters will be a brand new team next year of course, and the likes of Lauries, padua, and pats will go the whole 80 minutes with the current Ashgrove 16s age group.
Point of this all is don't count your chicken before they hatch, which some people say is what Marist have done this year. Everyone knows nothing from the past 4/5 years matters when it comes to game day in firsts rugby. 100+ points in a trial means bugger all without a flag to back it up. Should be interesting next year though.

I personally think the Peters #12 deserves a jersey and both Pats wingers outstripped the Villa wingers (not sure if Agnew played Peters though) based on the Peters games. Also thought the Pats #9 showed all the signs of being a great AIC1 half back. Great kick, accurate and fast pass, good acceleration and a bit of size.

Agnew could hold his own in the AIC 1 team
One of the better backs I've seen this season
Good metres, solid hands and quick feet

Absolutely smashing game from Villa on the weekend, definitely would of had more of a look in on the premiership if they had the full team on show since the beginning of the season

I too was very impressed with the St Peter’s forward pack who certainly did play well for such a small forward pack. Disappointing to see Marist pushed back so easily. They have the size but seem to lack technique. Was not a problem when Tom Rafter was in the side but he continues to be troubled by an injury and has not played since the trials. Emosi is not AIC material as very low workrate and cannot get fit with a troublesome knee injury. Agree that he is given too much publicity due to his size.

Totally agree on Rob Miekle and James Palmer. Have seen all the Padua games and these two have been close to best on ground in each game. The entire Padua front row (Miekle/Usher/Chapman) has been dominant. Would expect De Flavis to be the 10 though.

Then why did there front three crumble when they faced Pats....

Frank Row (1)
Francis were you even at the game?, there hasn't been game so far this season where Padua hasn't dominated in the front row, to say that they crumbled is obviously not true as the score would indicate.

Yeah, I was.... If they were dominant, then why did 1 get concussed, 2 get hit the whole game, and the 3 get dominated in the scrum the whole game to th point that his sternum was fractured?.... score has nothing to do with how the forwards performed considering most tries came from the backs.

So often on this forum and elsewhere I see players given a lot of hype when they do great things against weaker teams. So often the selections for AIC are based purely on great attacking players and yet no-one seems to notice they are disappointing in defence; or they are players who are great against easy defence (usually the bigger players) but ordinary when the defence is tough –no creativity or footwork.

AIC predictions- Very little has been said about Sam Wheeler for St Peter’s. He completely shut down De Flavis (AIC favourite for #10 but was playing #12) on the weekend. The #14 (Cooper) for Ash has been mentioned several times for AIC and he did indeed look spectacular against weak sides but marked his winger poorly in the Padua Game. The two backs tries for St Peter’s were scored on his wing. He did score a try against Peters after two players did not stick with a tackle and he simply got up and kept running. On the other hand the #11 (Graham) made a couple of great breaks but was well covered by the talented fullback for St Peter’s. Graham also did some great covering tackles and despite his size individually brought done the huge prop for Peters who was sprinting down the sideline.

AIC Prediction Considering defence and attacking performance in tough games.

#1,2,3 The front row for Padua have been well tested and passed. ?Tom Rafter as carrying an injury.#4 Sonny Ah San #5 Hard to go past Ethan McCall (Possibly needs to improve his work rate in the big games) #6 Michael Wood (If you can keep him on the field and not yellow carded) #7 Jeral skelton #8 Justin Sikatmeti; Charlie Dalmin #9 Jaz Day (Has an amazing work rate in defence-makes tackles all over the field) #10 Isaac De Flavis (Has been well marked this year but still manages to break thru the defence and is a gritty player but needs to look more to his backs in the tough games. His kicking game was better last year). Gwynn-Jones seems to be improving each game #11 #14 Patrick Agnew (Looks good in a losing side); Lachlan Kearney (Looked good against Peter’s but understand that Peters rested injured players –not sure who? for next Round against Ash). Matthew Abrahams; Brayden Campbell; possibly James Graham –looked good on the weekend in a losing side - (haven’t considered fullbacks playing wing which is always a good option if they have the speed) #12 Sam Wheeler; Charlie Renouf (Has been well marked and have not seen the brilliance of last year); Morne Knopp #13 Michael Cheer #15 for St Peters; Iona’s Will Feeney – looks good in an ordinary team and has a fantastic boot; Matt Weir; Ben Bucknell looking good for next year.
