For those who criticise Burgess, whom do we replace him with? Deans sees something he wants: speed of thought and action. There's no one within cooee of Burgess on the Australian rugby landscape. If his potential replacements are that good, check where their teams finished on the Super 14 table.

Your point is right (none of the scrum halves stood out apart from Burgess), but the bolded justification is typical biased provincialism crap. How does where a team finish on the table justify if a singular player should be picked? If the Reds back in the late 90s had a bad year, should they not have picked Horan or Eales? Or the Tahs, should we ignore the great Matt Burke or Phil Kearns if they finished below the Reds and Brumbies?

By your logic, maybe back in the 90s they should've therefore picked Pini over Burke when the Reds finished over the Tahs... :fishing

In 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 we could always have had the entire Brumbies team roll out for the Wallabies. Actually, maybe in 1997, 2002 and 2004 they might've done a little better!
