Doug Bracewell out with a rotator cuff injury. No replacement named yet but will probably be Neil Wagner or maybe Matt Henry if they want more pace.

Win or draw on this, and Australia goes to #1. Weather looks good

To be a really worthy world number one, we need to be able to bat on a pitch like that.

We showed some good signs in Wellington, hope we can go a step further here.

I thought that NZ were disappointing with both bat and ball in Welington - almost like a repeat of Brisbane.

I don't think there will be too many demons by the toss looking at that. Still to be mowed, no rain forecast and already looks fairly dry.

NZ have taken all 20 Australian wickets twice in the last 20 tests (and managed to lose one of those by 150 runs). If they had any sense the pitch would be completely indiscernible from the outfield.

Don't they have sprinklers and hoses in Christchurch?;)

Poor Siddle. Worst comes to worst, 200+ Test Wickets, 1000 Test Runs, a test hat-trick and a test 50 is not a bad career for someone who's had his place in the side fairly regularly questioned.

Patto and Sayers in, or does Bird get to keep his spot?

Forecast for today is mainly fine but clouding over late afternoon, max 30 deg. Currently 12 with 78% humidity which is quite high for CheeChee. Forecast for tomorrow is less promising with showers possible.

Sunday is the fifth anniversary of the 7.1 quake that did so much damage & killed 185 people. Presumably there will be some kind of commemoration prior to play starting for the day.

Apparently Neil Wagner has been marking out his run up, so looks like we'll be playing four front-line seamers plus Anderson with Williamson as the only spin option (unless BMac has a twirl). Toss to be made at 0700 QLD time.

Smith calls correctly & will bowl first. Ground is sold out today & tomorrow. BMac confirms Wagner & Henry in for Bracewell & Craig.

Not watching it live ATM, but Mark Richardson must be absolutely loving Williamson's 8 of 64 at a strike rate of 12.5.

Warner out caught to Boult.

1/45 after 14 overs. Stumps approaching - fantastic day of test cricket. 420 runs and 11 wickets with a bit of cricket still to play.
