Excellent start to the Boxing Day test by the Aussies. Testing spells by all bowlers thus far.

Special mention & congratulations to Jackson Bird, graduate of St Ignatius' College Riverview; ("High" as Mark Taylor introduced him during his 1st over on Ch 9), 2004. Great effort to bowl a wicket maiden in his 2nd test over.

I was speaking with someone involved with another GPS school's cricket programme who has a theory as to the poor conversion rate of private school graduates to the Oz test arena. He figures that the boys are spoiled with the quality of pitches/grounds they play on whilst at school. After leaving many struggle to cut their teeth on the often poorer quality grounds spread throughout suburbia.

In the current team, Cowan (Cranbrook) and now Bird have left their home state and made their mark for Tassie. These are blokes who have been prepared to ply their trade interstate & been in form when the selectors have come knocking.

Just as with the Wallabies, we need blokes like these who are made of sterner stuff, willing to put in the time & effort to enhance their skills.

I agree on the sterner stuff. There is the hard edge missing from too many players in both sports.

Aus on top in Melbourne, as they should be, yet still doesnt seem like we have the team right even when things are going pretty well for us.

absolute spanking of the SL in the Boxing Day test. Hopefully they show more fight (especially the batsmen) in the 3rd test.
