It's a very odd selection panel, who come up with very odd selections. On the basis of the past 12 months, nothing would surprise me any more on selections. When it suits them Shield runs/wickets mean a player has to be picked, when it doesn't suit them Shield performances are irrelevant.
Mark Waugh said last night on Fox that it was a "gut feeling" - and I suspect that this is how the current panel operates.
Certainly in Mark's case. He's a born punter and will go with those instincts I think. He's probably a pretty good judge and really our selection panel over the years have got it right a lot more often than wrong.
