It's really amazing how little anyone knows about how cricket pitches are going to actually perform on the day.

Comms/captains/us punters. No one has any real idea until the first 5 overs are bowled

NZ 142/5 chasing 189, Williamson 78* so one way or t'other it'll be over during the morning session so a little cricket & a visit to Good George looking likely. Having some mobile data roaming issues so may not be able to post from the ground but will see what I can do.

Khawaja just scored a century off 60 balls in the T20 match. Judging by the comments of the selectors, this means he will be picked on Boxing Day.

NZ win by 5 wickets, Williamson 108* & takes BMac's NZ record for most Test runs in a calendar year, is now fourth on the Most Int'l Runs list:200 behind Ponting with potentially three innings left (dodgy knee therefore not certain to play the ODI's).

SMarsh omitted from team for Boxing Day, Burns retains his spot and Khawaja returns.

Tough on SMarsh after his innings in Hobart, but he's had so many chances and in the past he has been picked ahead of more deserving candidates.

Alas the main competition for Australia today will be the weather - rain forecast for most of the day in Melbourne.

^^^^^^^ ah, NZC musta known something when they decided to have a Boxing Day ODI at Hagley Oval :) SL 20/2. Milne working up some good pace, not yet to where he was during CWC but mostly 140+ & one at 149.

Fuck me, 27/5 & Henry's got four of them. NZ'll be batting before the break if SL don't get their shit together & with Mathews & Chandimal both gone it's pretty much just the bowlers left. Good crowd in & looks like a belter of a day down those ways (as it is here in HamNZ).

^^^^^^^^^With Boult & Southee both being rested/ kept fresh for Straya (BMac has made it pretty clear they're pissed off with how things went on West Island & are keen to make amends) it's a good opportunity for one or two of Henry, Milne & McClenaghan to lock down a spot in the ODI First XI.

Still raining in Mlebourne - no toss yet. I reckon they'll be lucky to get a session of play today.

^^ The delay will mean that there is a good chance that the Test will extend into the second day.

Sounds like that may not be the case for the NZ v SL test. Can NZL enforce a follow on if the team batting first fails to score 100?
