^^^^^^^^^ good recovery from SL to be 163/6 then BMac takes a skier off Siriwardana (66), Ronchi a screamer off Kulasekara (58) & nek minit its 164/8. No other SL batsman has made 10. NZ need to finish this cos no way are they bowling nine overs in the 20 min left before the break.

Warner out to a poor shot - was completely dominating the attack at the time. Hope that Burns and Khawaja put on a big partnership here. A little pressure off Burns now that selectors have shown some faith in him.

^^^NZ v SL is game 1 of a 5 game ODI series.:)

Sadly I'll be back on West Island before game five "over the hill" at Mount Maunganui.

EDIT: time's up & NZ are three or four overs short. Some issues with glare off some pyrotechnic gear (let's put rocket launchers on top of the sight screen & tilt them 45deg! What could possibly go wrong?) but that's not good enough IMO.

Lakmal cops one on the padding behind the grille & eventually gets a new helmet sent out. Puts next ball down the throat of a boundary-rider, SL 188 which shouldn't be anywhere near enough: as Siriwardana & Kalusekara showed, it's a pretty decent deck.

So good having Bill Lawry back - a giant amongst the pygmies.

Let me guess: big crowd in (even if it's not); sun shining (even if it's not); and "it's all happening here at the MCG" (even if it's not) :). But, yes, now we've lost Richie Beanaud, Bill Lawry has more gravitas in his nose than any three of the others put together.

BMac 50 off 23 balls, NZ 82/0 off ten overs. Must've booked a twilight round of golf :) Guptill's 28 off 25 but very much second fiddle.... nek minit he goes 2, 4, 6: 40* off 28 & overtakes Williamson for most ODI runs in 2015 (AB deV is third).

BMac 55 (off 25), Guptill 79 (56) & Latham fall but Taylor & newbie Nicholls get them home by seven wickets with a mere 29 overs to spare. As in the Tests, Sri Lanka extremely disappointing even allowing for the players they've recently lost.

Good crowd in (not even Bill could describe 30,000 at the MCG as big), the sun has come out (4 seasons in one day in Melbourne), but unfortunately not even Bill could describe this match as "it's all happening". WIndies have a disgraceful over rate - so now we have two off spinners on so the captain isn't suspended for the next test, there's the occasional good ball - but enough bad ones to sit back and wait for them and pick off easy runs. Sadly the word "test" doesn't really apply to this match.

Burns and Khawaja both into the 80s and looking set for centuries.

Channel 9 have resorted to showing footage from the 80s and 90s to show what good West Indian batsmen and bowlers look like. Richie Richardson interviewed during the lunch break and we'll be hearing from Clive Lloyd at tea.

Great tons from both players. Selectors showed a lot of faith in keeping Burns and to bring Khwaja straight back and they have stoop up.

And rightly so IMO. In fact both should have been in the squad which went to the West Indies and England. The selectors should always have shown faith in these younger guys. I'd like to see Cameron Bancroft in the squad ahead of a couple of old blokes.:)

Burns and Khawaja each on 128 n/o. 250 partnership up. Keep going boys.

Warner must be kicking himself for missing out.

2/309 with 10 overs to be bowled.

Burns out stumped for 128. Smith 14 n/o already. Khawaja 140 n/o.

At one point WIndies resorted to bowling wide outside offstump - until the umpire started calling them for wides and called the captain over. Sad.

Yep it is sad.
Both wickets were down to the batsmen not the Windies.
Marsh will be spewing, centuries for everyone this week........

Great reply by Joe to the pressure on him today. Ussie also came back in showed us exactly why the selectors wanted him back at 3. He's playing out of his skin right now and looks very assured out there. Conversely, I was disappointed with Warner today. I thought he showed a lack of respect for the bowling and needlessly got himself out.

Lunch and the Aussies are 3/473 - Smith 90 n/o and Voges 74 n/o. Both batsmen should cash in with centuries here. It's little more than batting practice - the field is in ODI middle overs mode with singles available anywhere at will. Unless they get themselves out it's hard to see any wickets falling - already this morning we've had dropped catches, overthrows and misfields. The game is just meandering along.

Australia will be 600 or close to it by tea. Suspect we'll bat until an hour before stumps and declare about 650. Windies could be 3 or more down in that last hour.
