My main concern would be Tomane at inside centre, particularly with his rugby league past.

Lilo tends to crab a bit and the last thing we need is Tomane to do the same.

The benefit of having McCabe at 12 would be his strong straight running, but obviously Jake doesn't have complete faith in his shoulder just yet.

Can't see why Tomane wouldn't be a good crashballer, given his size and league experience?

Well, he's really yet to play many minutes at this level, an many league convert centres tend to do the Giteau shuffle and get found out in defence.

I hope he proves me wrong.

Brumbies fitness will have to serve them well in this one. Absolutely essential for the Brumbies to get on top of the Chiefs pack or else they will be murdered out wide. I would back the Brumbies pack to rise to the occaision though. Best of luck fellas.

I've got feeling Tomane is going to surprise a few people.

I don't want to pontificate about the team for that reason either - but I will anyway.

The demotion of Ben Hand this year by the hard-nosed Jake White does not surprise me. The elevation of Carter in his stead does not surprise me either - and nothing should be read into his playing on the bench for one particular week. He's a keeper.

I fear that Vaea will be marginalised by not being played at 8, his best position, but it was always on the cards when Mowen was nominated as the captain.

    6. Fardy, who can probably play in the 2nd row as well as Kimlin, seized his chance by playing well last week. IIRR this will be his first starting Super game.

It will be interesting if Zacker gets on the park for a while. This lad can play - but at the Super level? We may find out.

And Tomane at 12? That will be Sydney or the bush, as SBW is in good form, give or take an injudicious backhand pass every now and then .

    Good luck to all.

I would happily play Mown at 6 and Vaea at 8. It baffles me why they don't.

I've got a bad feeling the Brumbies will ship 40+ points. Massive test for them.

From the article you posted Slim, the impression I got was that Jake doesn't yet believe McCabe has complete faith in his shoulder just yet.

If rest and rotation really is the point of Carter on the bench, it seems odd that it is occurring so close to the bye. His body has already 'enjoyed' a week off straight after round 1.

But maybe the tactical nous of the only world cup winning coach actively involved in rugby is better than mine.

Chiefs have made some changes for this game as well.

    So a Chiefs team of:

    Chiefs:

    11 Tim Nanai-Williams
    10 Aaron Cruden
    9 Tawera Kerr-Barlow
    8 Liam Messam (c)
    7 Sam Cane
    6 Tanerau Latimer
    5 Brodie Retallick
    4 Craig Clarke
    3 Ben Tameifuna
    2 Mahonri Schwalger
    1 Arizona Taumalolo

    16 Marcel Cummings-Toone
    17 Josh Hohneck
    18 Kane Thompson
    19 Scott Waldrom

Good Chiefs side. Chiefs by 12. Ref for the match is Ian Smith, surely he wont allow the luxury of early hits in the scrum and Latimer and Messam to have a field day, SBW to carve it up in midfield.

I think we have an early contender for the broken record award this year.

I find it very disapointing that Greg Growden is so dismissive of the young brumbies team, when discussing them, he just shrugs, laughs, and moves on, as if no hope. They have worked really hard and deserve some respect, many will go on to be the stars of the future. So I ask, please stop falling over yourself revving up underperforming names, and give credit where it is due.

I'm really looking forward to seeing whether the new Brumbies can pull this one off. Chiefs probably better on paper, but for some reason I have a fondness for young, underestimated teams.

don't we all, but it's going to be a very tall order, Chiefs by a strong margin for me, anything closer a credit to the Brumbies.

Brumbies players are well-conditioned(thanks to excellent work by the brumbies' trainers in the pre-season). Chief's are favourites but Brumbies won't go down that easy...

There is a lot to like about Mogg. He is really making good decisions at fullback. His boot is brilliant also. I'm liking the way the Brumbies are playing so far.
