It's amazing how my values change when it starts to affect me even slightly. Previously, with no skin in the game, I was all for the tightest restrictions, lock the country down etc. etc.

Now, my partner has been in France for the past two months (and we probably won't see each other for another 10) and I'm really not doing well with the long distance. Very selfishly, I now hate the ban on international travel and wish it was all over.

Have a look at this website, great way of seeing all the personal stories of people affected by the international ban and the cap on flights home.

https://removethecap.com

Makes me feel marginally better seeing all these other people who are in similar (and often much sadder) situations.

If I was running this country, I would probably still make the same decisions that have been made so far - I understand why we're doing this. But reading through that site made me see the very human impact of all this. It's a bit crazy that Australia can even ban travel for probably a year a or longer, very few countries have done it completely. This vaccine can't come quick enough.

Yeah I get them wanting to control the in-flow, particularly given the spectacular fuck up the Victorian Government is currently defending itself against. But the steps people have to take to even leave the country is really draconian.

I read the same article yesterday and had meant to link it here. I found it interesting, especially the rapid decline.

It is interesting to see how MSM is treating different countries

Belgium was smashed by this thing and surprisingly their PM isn't used in the examples of "women doing this better"

But they are opening up anyway

the idea that gender has anything to do with a system response is so fucking dumb. but the articles got you linking and talking about it, so I guess in some way they achieved their goal!

14 cases in Victoria yesterday.

Word in hospitality circles is that major roads like Lygon Street are going to be closed to traffic on weekends through the summer, all al-fresco dining and socialising. I think it's a great idea and hope they go all-in on it.

Yeah, our plan "d" for a holiday was the Yarra Valley & Melbourne after christmas, but we have no confidence to book

FP, could either be a decrease in the severity of the virus or the fact that it unfortunately killed the most at risk in the first wave. It's a ghoulish calculus, but it appears that over time COVID is becoming less lethal.

Adelaide Hills and their wine regions are so good for a visit. Blew my mind how accessible they are from the city.

Watching Europe carefully as cases skyrocket. Mortality is a lag indicator so I think it's probably worth cooling the jets on making assumptions on the severity of it all, at least until their winter sets in.

Yeah the Doc's seem to have figured out how to keep most people alive with bad symptoms. That's fantastic. I'm still scare crapless about the long term side effects though. Not to mention the strain on health systems supporting the side effects for years to come.

Got to admit that while I've had every vaccine around and a couple most people never hear of and get the flu shot every year this one scares me a bit.

That was a comment on why New York is looking better from one commentator to their governor "you already killed all the old people"

Agree about the lag, but if you look at the earlier spike it is about 2-3 weeks
