Where can you buy?

Best to go to Batch Brewing in Sydenham Road, Marrickville to get it fresh.
Failing that, most of the "Craft Pubs"* in the city & near surrounds would have a Batch Brew on tap from time to time. Download the "Now Tapped" app & you can see what venues have what beer on tap.

Barneys Wines and Spirits in Botany Road, and Camperdown Cellers on Parramatta Road usually have a good selection of Batch Brews in bombers.

Go to http://www.batchbrewingco.com.au/. They list places where they have delivered recently.

* Keg & Brew, Bitter Phew, Dove & Olive. Pumphouse, Quarrymans, Sweeneys, Beer Deluxe, Local Taphouse, Harts, The Henson, The FLodge, Duke of Gloucester, Petersham Bowlo etc.

Had a quick browse through Hunter Valley Gardens' "Tunnel of beer" on the weekend. Looks like it's worth spending time at a tasting and a good look at their 800 beer types available.
Whilst there I learned that the word bridal comes from the olde English custom of brides making ale to sell on their wedding day. Some customs should not have been discarded.

Batch Brewing didn't work out so well, haven't got their taps set up for public tastings yet after a recent reno and the local council haven't approved sampling from bottled beer. But, the public can buy bottles (640ml) or growlers from the brewery.

Moved on to the Henson Park Hotel on Illawarra Road, Marrickville. Fantastic pub, 20 craft beers on tap (and the obligatory Cooper's green) including a corn-based beer honouring their local federal polly called Albo's Ale, delicious. Food was excellent (scoffed a Burnt Barra Burger), place was full, plenty of families (they've converted an external store room into a children's playground) and even water dishes for dogs! A very well thought out take away section (humorously called grocery & grog) has some food delicacies as well as a huge range of craft beers in bottles. Yesterday there was a display in the front of the bottleo of artisan gins, about 20 Australian ones.

Well worth a visit. Wish it was my local.

Had a Batch American Pale Ale at Empire Hotel Annandale today. Tasty beer in a lovely historic pub with nice counter meal.

Gents, just stumbled across an interesting website.

https://www.boozebud.com.au

looks to have a pretty complete offering of craft beers.

Perhaps we could make this forum a little more interactive, any interest in having a beer of the month and we each source the beer and compare and make notes?

If I were to lead I would suggest The New-Englander Golden Ale which I had recently at Tamworth and would rate very highly. (Copy and paste the link, its only $10 for a long neck + shipping)

@Not in Straight. A number of Gaggerlanders use Untappd (on the phone ap or via untappd.com) to record and share Craft beer thoughts.

This thread would extend for quite a few pages more than it currently does if I shared all my untappd posts!:)

Thanks Hugh, will have a look at untapped

But I was finding that just posting about beer was a bit of a dry argument.

I was just putting out a feeler to see if there was any interest amongst the Gager people to venture out of the virtual and into the real world and actually buy and try as recommended by each other.

Anyway, thoughts please gents

^^^It's the craft beer thread. If you find a beer that you like, then by all means post about it here, as others have done in the past.
I have chased down some beers mentioned in this thread that I haven't tried before.
It also helps those in remote locations decide what to try and source when they go to the big smoke and find a bottlo with a greater range of beers than what is available from their local one who's range often doesn't exist much beyond a fairly limited range of products from CUB, and Lion Nathan (Kirin).

Should 640ml be classified as a long neck or a large stubby

Some call a 640ml bottle a Bomber, in the same manner as the 1000 ml bottle is sometimes referred to as a Squealer, and a 1800 ml container is a Growler.

Further research reveals that there are all sorts of names for the various sizes of beer bottles mainly dependent on the country or state you are in.

Needed something to soothe my wounded soul after tonight's match. Dropped in to the Wig & Pen as I wandered back to my digs in Canberra. Charming young chap behind the bar (obviously came from Sydney ) walked me through the latest lot of offerings I hadn't tasted. Settled for a Rumpole's American Pale Ale (delicious) followed by a coupla favourites, a Sequoia (an Irish Red replacing their IRA) and finished off with the house stout, Velvet Cream. Was there some rugby played hereabouts recently.....

Some good news to report. The owner of the W&P, one Lachie McOmish, has resisted requests from patrons, staff, craft beer aficionados and the entire beer-drinking universe to make his delectable offerings available to others in barrel. Well, Lachie's finally relented, and some W&P brews are now available on tap in Melbourne, Canberra and, horror, Brisbane. But not Sydney! Yet. If you ever get a chance to sample Wig & Pen's Russian Imperial Stout (it isn't cheap, about $12 for 150 ml) do not pass up the opportunity. It's brewed and lagered in autumn and only available in winter. Once the year's batch is gone you have to wait until the next year.

Off to bed a much happier chappy. :D

^^Thanks for the report on the scene in the Nations Capital.

Next time I'm down there, the W&P will be on the agenda along with the Bent Spoke brewery, and Plonk Bottleshop.

I'm still filthy with the W&P after being turned away at 9.50pm on a Saturday night last year and have no desire to go back any time soon.........

Thankfully the Bent Spoke in Braddon is much more accessible.

Both excellent establishments for the enjoyment of beer. The only comment I'd make is the BentSpoke brews are very bitter (the brewer has a reputation for being generous with addition of hops) while being a touch pricey. However, please feel free to make up your own minds.
