Reports saying a Channel 7 + Fox Sports bid will get the cricket rights for $1 billion:

http://www.afr.com/business/media-a...h-foxtel-and-seven-west-media-20180412-h0yp9r

Key points:

- Ten & Seven were competing to join Fox Sports in broadcasting, Nine dropped out on Thursday
- Seven get all home tests & 43 BBL matches
- Foxtel simulcast all tests + BBL, exclusively broadcast all ODIs and T20Is
- Fox Sports exclusive ODIs may throw up a snag as Australian home ODIs are on the anti-siphoning list
- Nine still has the 2019 Ashes, 2019 CWC and 2020 T20 World Cup

Please no. But at least we can, hopefully, look forward to the end of Slater, Taylor, Clarke and Nicholas. It was so nice to watch the broadcasts from SAf where the grownups were behind the mics (apart from the baffling presence of Nicholas, neither an Oz nor a Saffer). How delightful was it to listen to Mike Haysman and Michael Holding? All they talked about during proceedings was the cricket in front of them; any puff pieces about the past were left until after play. And there were NO interruptions from puerile social media competitions. Gawd Nine's become painful to watch the last decade or so.

Hope Seven can snaffle Chapelli. And Brendon Julian.

Nicholas is just a professional commentator who does circuits around the world (he is just about to go over to India to do the IPL) which is why you get him popping up in series he seemingly has no involvement in. 7 are angling for Ponting, Gilchrist, and Warne apparently. Ponting and Gilchrist were great doing the Big Bash for the last few summers, and Warney can be pretty funny at times.

Unfortunately we probably won't ever get to hear Bill Lawry commentating again or the Channel 9 intro but apart from that it'll be nice to clear out the deadwood that had been accumulating in the 9 com box since Richie, Tony, et al. finished.

As long as Warne is talking strictly about the cricket he is quite good.

Hopefully someone keeps Basil as far away from the cricket as possible
