Danger Danger Will Robinson. Wade will need to play the innings of his life with Maxwell's help. Maybe Agar will be the trump

1 wicket remaining for 35 odd runs not looking good from here. How quickly the tide has turned. Once again our middle order collapses.

Cummins - 14 runs off last over - going out in a blaze of glory.

Edit - done and dusted - 244, 21 short

Bowled trying to cut a length ball pitching middle & off? Holing out to the longest boundary into a gale? Sorry, you're gonna have to be a little more specific :)

Appears to be the former :)

Maxwell cannot fucking help himself.

Wade is past it.

Get Monty Panesar as a full-time coach.

Embarrassing. Very embarrassing. Disgraceful. And yet, unsurprising.

How much has the pay dispute affected prep? (If it means Sutherland can be blamed, then yes this is one reason behind the loss)

Bangladesh to win the next test as well. Take it to the fucking bank.

And Khwaja is apparently in line to be chopped.

I wonder how long Maxwell is going to survive on the back of his India ton? That's prob enough to gauruntee him at least 3 series.

I'd say you're probably spot on with that estimation. To be fair to him, we have only really seen him bat on the sub-continent.

Personally. I don't believe Maxwell will be a good test cricketer but given his performance in India I think its only fair that we see what he can do on Australian soil before we put a line through his name for good.

As opposed to Khawaja who has officially earned his reputation as a flat track bully. (Nothing against Usman because I actually rate him, I just don't think he can play spin and I wouldn't be picking him outside of Australia)

Those 30 odd byes that Wade conceded with the gloves turned out to be critical..not to mention he was hopeless as usual with the bat. If I was picking the team for next test he'd be the first bloke I'd cut, followed by Khawaja.

Interesting that SOK has been flown over for the 2nd test. Did not see that coming.

Bangladesh deserves a bit more respect for this performance, they've significantly improved over the last few years and actually have a decent side.

Khawaja dropped for Hilton Cartwright.

SOK replaces Josh Hazlewood when went home injured.

Bangladesh won the toss and will bat which hurts our chances.

SOK is generally an economical bowler so maybe they plan to use him to tie down Cummins' end between his spells.

I think Cartwright has been brought in almost entirely as the only other batting option. I'll be surprised if he bowls much.

Hazlewood was pretty ineffective in the first test. Not overly surprised they didn't pick Pattinson to replace him.

Four Bangladeshi wickets have fallen - all LBW to Lyon! This was pitch report earlier:
"Pitch report from the host broadcaster: The clay looks a lot lighter than in Dhaka. So even if the sun beats down on it, it might not crumble badly. 370 is the average score batting first. It will certainly turn though, but that's for later, and the bounce will be good."
Not feeling super confident.
Rain forecast for rest of week may have an impact.

Bangladesh finished 6/253. Looks as though they may make 330 odd. Going to be hard for Aus to claw that back on a turning wicket. Time to see what the Aus batsmen have learnt from the last test. Interesting to see that Cummins has not taken a wicket but is going for less than 2 an over.

Not knowing anything about his current fitness, I would have thought Stoinis might also have been an option to replace Hazelwood. Has shown at ODI level he can bat and probably is a better bowler than Cartwright. However, I would have preferred both Pattinson and one of Cartwright/Stoinis to join the squad. Too many very average spin bowlers in the team already without bringing SO'K in.

This pitch is completely dead. Cummins bowled amazingly well yesterday and was unlucky not to take a wicket (Maxwell dropped a catch off him) but I think the amount of pace bowling used will decrease as the test wears on.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cartwright barely bowls again in the match.

I think he's largely been picked as a specialist batsman and was the only other batsman on tour.

I expect you are right BH, but my main point is that our spinners are so inadequate at test level, any more than Lyon is really a luxury that sub-continent teams will take advantage of. Despite the poor pitches, I reckon our top pace bowlers bring a lot more threat than the spinners.

Unbelievable batting from Warner, Handscomb and Smith.

Handscomb's grit to get through the last half hour when he was about to pass out was amazing. Warner still being in a reasonable condition after batting twice as long even more so.

A good first session tomorrow and we could put ourselves ahead in the game.
