Smith admitted cheating.I don't know how more truthful he can be!.I was comparing him to other national captains who straight out denied it after it was clearly proven and they were charged. I was also noting the vast difference in punishment handed out by their respective cricket associations.
I really enjoyed watching the recent T20 games between Aust and NZ and thought BOTH teams were very respectful of each other. Virtually all Australian cricketers are respectful. I don't like seeing Warner screaming at players in Test matches (even if his wife had been abused), however, the Aust media and public's view that the remainder of the team are 'grubs' is simply incorrect. I cant talk to previous Aust teams (and nor should many others) as I have only been watching a lot of the current team and been 'up close' to them. With the benefit of hindsight CA via Lehman should have been pulling Warner's head in, and to be fair Warner's behaviour was improving up until the South African series. However, the Australian media and public including many on this thread (most of them foreigners I notice) are ill informed about how well behaved and respectful the remainder of the Australian team is. Their view of the current Aust cricket team is simply wrong. If that view has been caused by the action of previous players, then CA is partly at fault for 1) not controlling the coach/players in the past, and/or 2) not taking action to improve the image of its current players/coach in the eye of the Aust public.
Normally, I wouldn't have such strong views but Smith is possibly the best batsman the world has ever seen (his averages were heading towards Bradman) and the Aust cricket association, media and public, for whatever reason, banned him for 12 months after the ICC banned him for 1 game consistent with previous offences!.for something that happens in every Test match to varying degrees.
I am ashamed Smith made a mistake, he should have stopped it even if he wasn't involved, but I am more ashamed by CA and Australian society in general.

I actually feel kind of sorry for the bloke. His team cheated and cheated in a moronic way but the reaction to a little ball tampering (a pretty regular form of cheating, lets be real) and his career is railroaded.

It was probably fucking Warner's idea as well. That guy seems like a bit of a wanker.

I wonder what would have happened had Smith offered a 'no comment' until after the game and some counsel from wise heads?

The only positive to come out of the shambolic affair is that by stripping the captaincy and banning all involved for a serious amount of time, not to mention their loss of income from IPL and sponsorships, Australian fans have regained somewhat of a moral high ground in that all of the other tampering offences received a minor slap on the wrist. At least we deal with cheats comprehensively, unlike the Jaapies, Poms, Indians and Pakistanis.

Peter Lalor wrote a really insightful piece about the impact on Smith for The Australian. Worth a read.

    Moral highground or overreaction?

You could also look at it this way. Because of our hysteric reaction to a common form of cheating from our team we have lost the best batsman in the world for a year.

    Moral high ground indeed.

I'm not saying I support the penalty, only that if there's a glimmer of positivity from it all, then this might be it.

A good article with clear insights from Sutherland. Certainly better than his bumbling press conferences to-date: http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22942151/sanctions-causing-damage-game-not-tampering

Apparently the Kiwis are now Lehman's model for how a team should play.

It's risible that a bloke at the centre of the ugly culture in the Australian team thinks he can simply pivot and change his/their spots after walking the road to Damascus.

    Cricket Australia Install New CEO

In the wake of this weeks' cheating scandal in Australian cricket, and in somewhat of a shock move, Cricket Australia have today replaced their CEO Donald Sutherland and instead installed Wollongong local Trevor Gunston as the acting CEO of Cricket Australia, effective as of immediately. Mr Gunston was voted in by an overwhelming show of hands down at Bondi beach after standing on his eskie and yelling "f*** these c***ts, who the f***s with me?"

"I'll sort all these hopeless fucken c**ts out, no fucken problem there."
    --new C.A CEO Mr T.Gunston.

Mr Gunston has already adjudicated over his first press conference.

Q: How can Darren Lehmann escape charges given the apparent relaying of messages to Cameron Bancroft?

You mean Dazza? Dazza's a good c**t, albeit a bit thin on top. My fuckwit brother Wayne's got some scented urinal cakes he could rub on there, get a bit of follicular activity going. Sorry, what was the fucken question?

Q: How could he not know given the culture around the team, and is he culpable on a wider level?

Look, c**t, being a baldy is no crime. Of course he fucken knows he's a bald c**t, the culture of the team has nothing to do with his moon dome. Did you write these fuckwit questions yourself or did Gene-o slip something in your drink? Useless f****** c***** b*******.

Q: How much scrutiny will Lehmann face during the culture review?

During the what? The culture review? What the fuck is that? Do I have to take these fat c**ts to the fucken theatre? Bit of fucken Macbeth or some shit? Fine then. We'll make Dazza wear a cravat or some rubbish. There, satisfied? C**t.

Q: How much did David Warner's history contribute to receiving the harshest penalty?

He's a dickhead. It's not rocket science. Until you involve either rockets and/or science. Next question please. Fuckwit.

Q: What about allegations from South Africa about the use of sandpaper [the bandage on Warner's left hand] in Port Elizabeth?

Look c**t, South Africa has a long history of legalised persecution of black people so I'm not about to start placing any credence in anything those nazi fuckwits have now got to say for themselves.

    Q: Will you investigate?

Investigate what? For fucks sake. I am trying to conduct an informative press conference here in my capacity as CEO of Cricket Australia. Have you been on the piss?

Q: Will they get contracts for 2018-19?

If by "contracts" you mean will we take out contracts on their lives, whereupon a certain local business is contracted to murder the individuals and dispose of their corpses in the quarry then I can answer an unequivocal "no." There will be NO contract killings under my watch for AT LEAST the first 3 months of my tenure.

Q: They have been banned by the IPL - did you have the authority to reject NOCs?

FBI, CIA, NASA, these are all acronyms with which we each have varying degrees of affinity. Here's another one for you; C.U.N.T. Look that one up ya fuckwit.

Q: Would you be happy if they did play county cricket?

Oh so now you're asking me about some rando's fucken happiness? Jesus, is there any focus at all to your questions? Yes, I'm happy when some other c**t is happy doing some other thing, that makes them happy, in some other place. For fucks sake, next you'll be asking my am I happy when some random prick in Burma is happy having his cup of dung tea in the fucken morning. Random c**t. Next question better be a good one you fuckwit.

    Q: Were bigger bans contemplated?

Bands don't generally play at the cricket, we pipe the music over the stadium P.A. Have you ever even been to a fucken cricket match? Thick c**t. How the fuck did you even get this fucken job?

Q: Can Smith captain Australia again?

Of course. Smith is a very common name in Australia so in the future there is a likelihood that a Smith can captain Australia fuck me mate do you want the fucken lottery numbers too while I'm here?

Q: Has Warner got a steeper path than Smith?

Warner is a slightly rarer name than Smith so ergo visa visor his path will be that much steeper. For fucks sake, next you'll be asking me has Bodhisatva got a steeper path than Warner.

Q: Was the harsh penalty for ball-tampering or outrage?

Fuck mate, talk about painting me into a corner, giving me only 2 bloody options? Maybe it was cos I thought Warner was an ugly c**t? Did you factor that tangent into your question diorama, no, didn't think so. 'Journalist', my ball-tampered cock.

Q: How much more damage could there be done if the matter goes to a hearing?

Sky's the limit mate. We could find out Warner bets on the ponies. Or stores kidnapped toddlers in his basement. Or is actually left-handed. Or was born in New Zealand. Oh God, that last one, my tampered balls just actually shuddered, cancel any and all scheduled hearings.

Q: Given Warner has got in strife before, were you worried he might transgress again?

Well, he's not a tranny if that's what you're asking.

Q: Regarding culture. Smith said before Cape Town he was not in a great headspace. He was talking about batting, but still. Under umbrella of culture, are you looking at that part of it?

We will not rule out any element of culture for Dazza's big night out sporting a tux, cravat, kaftan and an umbrella, whether that be theatre, opera or interpretative dance mime.

Q: What is Warner's future like given apparent breakdown of his relationship with the rest of the team?

If you're asking me do the rest of the team want Warner dead then my answer to that is what's it worth to you?

One eyed, I not saying Smith deserves the penalty, all I said in response to your comment that they admitted to it and were honest, that not quite, he had obviously seen footage and could not deny what happened, but he still told pokies by saying it was tape and 'leadership' group decided on it. He was probably doing it for what he thought was the right reasons, but regardless he came of the field and lied, so I'm not too sure how innocent he can be. Look I have always thought he seemed a good guy, certainly a great batsman, but now the punishment has been handed out let's not pretend he was too hardly done by. For all the talk that has come up on here by mainly Aus supporters the comments have all said the players whole attitude has been pretty disgraceful at times, and regardless of all else that usually reflects on how a team is captained, or lead! .

As he had to if they're serious about "changing the culture". Mind you I've heard the "culture" can be pretty toxic even st FC level so maybe it'll take a playing generation rather than 12-24,months?
