    Need to post somewhere.

    Thank God MAFS has finished.

The most God awful TV ever made.

Lost all control of the TV remote for a bit. A very bad situation, normally returning.

It's daft because he even puts himself offside with Christians who have even a slightly different view. i.e believe it is a sin but they won't go to hell for it. And further that anyone who thinks they know who is going to hell (if such a place actually exists in the bible which is up for serious debate) and for what is basically playing God and should wind there neck in.

So it I think it is pretty unchristian of a devout Christian even if you find playing the pooper to be wrong.

wft, the Izzy Sends The Gays To Hell thread has blown through town and left carnage in its wake, blazed away for 2 days, 8,000 posts, then locked away in the asylum before the weekend even came around. User@TOCC a casualty?
    Was he banned?
He'll be back. Retreat to behind hindmost feet and reenter ruck.

I hope he comes back soon. Frequently a voice of reason and always polite when you disagreed.

Not that I really want to discuss it, but he decided to go, I suggested some thinking time, but he made the decision to walk away, and I respect that. I agree, always sad to see a long time poster leave, whatever the reason.

Its a shame TOCC felt he needed to leave even if it was for personal reasons. Its sad to see people effected by this debates but unsurprising.

Sadly its a complex debate that many are uninformed about (not that I am claiming that I am any more informed than others). However I am also a little surprised and disappointed that the Mod's let the thread run on for such length but that is more a hindsight thing I believe.

The complexity and usual misunderstanding around this topic is that we don't technically have a right to unrestricted free speech. There is legalisation that both governs and protects free speech in the country.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech_laws_in_Australia

    https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/lega/lega/form/immi-faqs/what-is-the-character-requirement

The key issue many fail to consider is, with religion in particular, adding a consequence of some nature to particular action even if its based within a religion or belief, then applying the free speech or religious belief caveats is not that simple.

A single sermon may express a belief, but whether the consequence be going to hell, stoning, beheading, beating, whipping, throwing off a roof top, genital mutilation, humiliation, crucifixion, ostracising, or other types of punishment or threat still may be hurt full to some and take the debate down the road to complex "nuances".

From ISIS hate preachers advocating beheading, the female teachers who deal with children taught to disrespect and defy women on religious grounds and that the women's defiance will make them to go to hell, or Christians including people who identify as LGBTI genuinely fearing hell; it is a very complex and sensitive debate.

Rugby is supposed to inclusive to all, a sport that is for all and does not discriminate nor offend. It is supposed to be intolerant of bigotry.

Rugby should be intolerant of this debate as its not a sporting debate its a political and religious one.

IMHO it appears that Rugby was a mere associate in this debate.

I cant help be draw the comparisons to this:

The Mods did discuss closing the thread the day before. But sometimes it's better to have all the bullshit in one place.

It absolutely is a hindsight thing.
We discussed it. I could have left it running in the Wallabies thread, but that was inappropriate. We had a thread so it would not pollute multiple other threads. Unfortunately, as seems to be the norm around here with issues remotely like this, is that some posters cannot refrain from making personalised and inflammatory statements and it spirals.
If I close it early (as several other mods wanted to do) I get accused of trying to censor free speech (which, by the way, is a privilege on a privately owned forum), invariably by posters making the most inflammatory statements.
It would be amazing if people could universally act like mature and understanding adults, consider the viewpoints of others without making personal comments and just dispassionately debate the topic. Most can. The ones that can't, or won't, fuck it up for everyone else.
So, it's my fault. In future, I will probably assume a lower level of debate.
And it was not at all like the politics thread - for my money, that never had a real place on a rugby forum. This was a rugby related issue, and really could have been discussed as such. Sadly, no.

For the record, I don't believe it's your fault. And I don't think it was the reason TOCC left. Although it may have contributed.

I am not proportioning blame nor do I think it your fault. It was judgement call and a difficult one at that. I certainly don't envy your position in dealing with this.

This issue is personal as its comes back to each persons personal beliefs / viewpoint etc and invariably impossible to dispassionately debate the topic.

Although it was a rugby related issue I think the reality here is it shouldn't have been and that is why RA, NSWRU and QANTAS are trying to stop it dead ASAP. This was always about religious, political and personal views / beliefs.

I think in future GAGR should exercise the privilege of censoring free speech on a privately owned forum.

I really respect that you not only are owning this but also willing to discuss it. Please don't take it personally as it is a hindsight thing. To err is human.

Good post. As a follower of Jesus' teaching (but not an orthodox Christian by any means) I find it enormously depressing that the underlying message of the Gospel (the "good news") which is that God loves all of us unconditionally, is so easily glossed over and dismissed in practical terms.

How can anybody say that they follow Jesus, and then say something so hurtful?

OH SHIT. Nigel Owens. The ref. The GAY ref.

    Next Tahs/Wallabies match.

Nig blows whistle for kick off, then, almost immediately, while ball is still in air, shrill double blast of the Acme Thunderer. Everyone stops, Nig immediately looks downfield and red cards Folau. Izzy trudges off. Nig smiles and says "we can restart the match now, just some nastiness I felt I had to take care of."
