Pretty sure we have a few players posting here and thought it will be nice to open a thread specially with the Olympics coming up.

Just to get it going I go to the roots of the sport and our Paarl Gym boys and girls are playing currently in an international festival in Cape Town which include New South Wales Bushrangers boys and girls from Sydney.

Today is semi final day and some great results thus far

Apparently the Hockeyroos have just downed Great Britain (favourites for the Olympics) 2 - 0 in a warm up match. Hopefully they will be back to their former glory.

The Hokkie Bokkies and Hokkie Stokkies went the hard yard to qualify. Hope they do well at the Olympics.

6-0 against South Africa by the kookaburras. Good work!

I played hockey on grass pitches. Such a different game these days.

    No offside is good too.

ja sure grass hockey is a totally different game. Good win last night for the Black Sticks against India and the Hokkie Bokkies nearly down the home team. TMO is a big farce in this tournament.

The tmo is weird in this tournament. In the previous tournaments they have been used well or at least the players/coaches have been happy with it.

The Hockeyroos tonight were a bit lacking over USA today. The only highlight being the drag flick that scored them the 1 nil victory.

Ja I watch a bit of the match and they dont look on song. Maybe a youngies team, we always expect strong hockey teams from Australia.

The Hockeyroos haven't really clicked ever since Charlesworth left. And watching the Kookaburras play under Ric's eye is phenomenal.

Charlesworth would have to be one of the greatest coaches in Australian sporting history.

I agree, I thought that skill lapses from the hockeyroos were surprising. They did not dominate the USA at all, were a bit lucky to get away with 1-0.

Cronk kept them in that match. Some great saves the penalty stroke in particular.

So the Kookaburras take on Team GB today (4am our time). This should be good. The Kookaburras will be looking to make amends after only drawing with (and almost losing to) Argentina.
Team GB gave really improved over the last few years. Their program had really worked and England have been pacing at World Cups. Plus there is that home crowd thing.

Fantastic service by Jamie Dwyer for the kookaburras, what a legend. Deserved better than a bronze, but still awesome work. Clearly a much better team than GB on the day.
