Huge blow for the NZ women with Portia Woodman rupturing an Achilles at training & probably out for six months:

There was an "all time leading try scorers" graphic put up during the USA tournament & Woodman had almost double the tally of whoever was second on the list. A genuine try scoring machine who NZ will miss big time.

Tim Mikkelsen will miss the first two legs due to the imminent arrival of his first child. He'll be missed. Also missing Joe Ravouvou who needs to become a NZ citizen & as he's not a Czech drug smuggler* our Immigration Minister hasn't fast-tracked him. We do get Regan Ware back from Maori AB duties, though.

No Portia as above but also no Niall Williams who's also injured & will also be a big loss, offset somewhat by getting Broughton & Waaka back. Also keep an eye out for Risi Pouri-Lane who captained NZ at the recent Youth Olympics. Probably won't get many minutes unless there's injuries but she's definitely a player with a big career ahead of her.

Our challenge will be filling the play making void left by the departure of Stannard. Are Holland, Longbottom and potentially McNamara up to it?

Great to see Liam McNamara back by the way. He had improved out of sight before he did his ACL.

Trael Joass, Etene Nanai-Seturo and Taylor Haugh are heading over from NZ as injury replacements for Baker, Rokolisoa, Dickson, and Curry who've flown home. Jona Nareki and Regan Ware have flown down with the rest of the team & are likely to be available (they'd best be: EN-S had to be released from pre-season Chiefs duties & Joass was the only fit & contracted player still in NZ).
