Can anyone break down the current RWC squad + additions into which school or district system they came through? You can only go on the evidence, after all.

Yes - I'd love to know the whats / hows / whys the players finished their schooling within the Private School System?

Off the top of my head, only three Sydney GPS players in the squad: Kurtley Beale (Joeys), Dean Mumm (Kings), Nick Phipps (Kings).

It would be interesting to see if there is a correlation to particular school teams having a good period X years ago, and whether there is anything to be learned from that.

We had a period there for a while where it seemed we were signing "the next big thing" and those guys, coming up against grown men, didn't enjoy necessarily the same freedom. The last few years, experience counts - Fardy is a great example. Not even necessarily through a standard club setup but showing the right attributes and proved his worth.

Wonder how many of those blokes gone to Europe would be similarly hardened by their experiences? A lot of it will be down to individual personalities, and whether they can adapt back to the training and speed of game required down here.

I'll miss some but from Queensland GPS

Genia, Pocock, Moore, Simmons, QC (Quade Cooper), To'omua, Tomane, Slipper,
McMahon

Greg Holmes went to Downlands so would have played against the GPS schools.

That's a fair point Nick. The two prominent teams to produce professionals in the Sydney GPS in my time were the Kings era of 2001-2002 (Benn Robinson, Dean Mumm, Daniel Halangahu, Will Caldwell, Ben Hand, James Hilgendorf, and more I've forgotten), and Joeys in 2006 (Paddy Ryan, Kurtley Beale, Peter Betham, Zipa Taumopeau).

Worth noting that this would be easily the lowest GPS representation in any of the RWC squads so far.

Interestingly David Campese came into the Wallabies through the district route rather than schoolboys. Queanbeyan High did not have a rugby team and Campo played rugby league for the school. He played grade rugby for the Queanbeyan Whites and it was through that avenue that he came to be selected for the Wallabies a year or two after he finished school.
Didnt Tony Melrose make oz schools from grade.

Brendan Williams only made the side after he was playing for randwick colts while still at school.

He was attending Cleveland St high at the time & we (randwick colts) had a trial game against the Australian school boys side/squad in 1995 and Brendan scored 4 tries against them.

Once they realized he was also still attending high school, boom, straight in the next week.

Freak schoolboy and colts footy player. I was lucky enough to play a year of colts with him. Amazing talent.

That was often the case in the amateur era, when senior rep teams were picked on club form and put through trials.

The 1999 world cup squad had very few Sydney/Brisbane GPS representation, if I recall correctly.
Yeah good call, but had one more than 2015 of Sydney GPS. Off the top of my head I spotted Matt Burke (Joeys), Chris Whitaker (High), Phil Kearns (Newington) and Tom Bowman (Scots).

I assume Quade needs two more tests to reach the "magic 60"!
So let's say that two international "7s" games equals one test match.
Quade joins the Aussie 7s team for the Olympics, and 'hey presto', after 4 matches at the 2016 Olympics, he becomes eligible for future Test duties.
Problem solved!!

Interesting read mate. Thanks for posting.
I do still hate how players are identified by their senior schools in rugby. I'd Much prefer listing where they played their junior rugby, like in State of Origin previews. Gives a better account where they grew up - not where they got their scholarship in most cases.
