Now that S15 has come to a close, I have been trying to find out if I will be able to watch any of the ITM Cup on Foxtel. This is the first year I've had Fox so I'm still learning what sports I now have access to.

Can anyone tell me whether it is shown on the standard sports package (ie no setanta).
Cheers!

Fantastic! Thanks for that. I really enjoyed watching the ITM Cup last time I was over in NZ and am looking forward to watching again! Just sit back and wait for it to start then!

I have heard whispers of a couple of Shute Shield players that have (or are about to) head across the Tasman for the ITM cup. Can't recall where I heard it from, or read about it.

Any one have a list of names and the teams that they will be playing for?

Anyone from the BrisVegas Premier clubs doing the same?

I would be keen to hear of any Aus players getting a run in the ITM

IIRC Eastwood's Ben Batger has also done a season or two across the Tasman with Hawkes Bay Magpies in the NPC as it was then.

The ITM cup is great to watch on foxtel. But at the same time, makes me sad to live in perth where rugby is only on for half the year. And people say we are a first world country? .........

The ITM Cup will be interesting because they will be trialling the new laws

New rugby laws aimed at keeping the game invigorated will be implemented in this year's ITM Cup, Heartland Championship and national women's competition as part of a global trial of new IRB laws.

The introduction of eight new laws for New Zealand's domestic competitions was announced at the official launch of the ITM Cup in Auckland today.

The laws - part of a suite of laws being trialled around the world - include a five-second time limit on playing the ball once it is available at the back of a ruck, a time limit on when conversion kicks must be completed after a try is scored, the positioning of a quick throw-in, expanding the short arm penalty options for teams benefitting from a knock-on or throw forward into touch and teams awarded a penalty or free kick at a line-out may choose another line-out without first having to kick for touch.

The changes also include a new scrum engagement call which will see referees call "crouch, touch, set".

The laws, effective from today, will get their first real test when the ITM Cup kicks off on Thursday, August 23, Hawke's Bay host Auckland at Napier's McLean Park.

This year's 15-round ITM Cup runs over 10 weeks including seven mid-week rounds.

Having locked away the Ranfurly Shield for the summer, and fended off pre-season challenges from Heartland teams King Country and Wanganui, Taranaki will look to ward off the season's first challenge from Tasman in round three on September 7.

The competition retains the premiership (top seven teams) and championship (bottom seven) format with teams playing every other province within their premiership/championship as well as four "crossover" matches for full competition points.

The premiership and championship semifinals are scheduled for October 19 and 20, with the finals to be played on October 26 and 27.

The women's competition final will be played as a curtain raiser to the premiership final.

ITM Cup could get massive ratings if they advertised it on Foxtel here more.

First of all, the rugby is great being NZ domestic and they have mid-week games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when there's no AFL or NRL on. I know plenty of NRL/AFL fans who will actually watch ITM cup as they reckon it's much better than international and/or super rugby in terms of entertainment, I kind of agree.

I am adopting Hawkes Bay as my ITM team. They produce good wines from there.

You can dine and play petanque in many of the vineyards, while tasting the product on offer. Love it.

I thought all of the mid week games were done last year as they had to compress the comp to fit in the RWC. Will it be the same again this year or will they go back to the old format?

Looks like they will have games 5 days a week. Should be good.

Same again, they kept it because it was such a success with fans. I'm not sure the players are too happy with shorter turnarounds but hey, since when do players get a say ;)

All over in 10 weeks or so.
