Not really. If your best 9 isn't the best player in his club, and the better player plays for one of your major rivals, that's not ideal is it?

When taking about wallaby selection, wouldn't the best Aussie 9 at the club be th player your discussing?

If we were to compare Sarel to Mckibbon, there are pros and cons for each, it's nit clear cut.

The thread about if Mckibbon is up to wallaby duty, my opinion is he is not.

But in answe to your question of him not being the best 9 at the club, he is being consistently picked ahead Sarel and that doesn't look like changing. Soe say it os for his goal kicking, but even if that's the only reason, it's a reason Sarel diesnt bring to the table making McKibbon more valuable again.

mate if you run through this thread you will find that this ain't just a Brumbie supporter love fest.

Genia is a great player and historically has more runs on the board, but this year, so far, White looks the goods.

I think the only way McKibben would make the wallaby squad would be due to his goal kicking ability, an area Australia have traditionally struggled with. Is this enough to cover decreased capacity in his primary trade? Not in any sane persons view, but perhaps in the ARU's

I think the most likely reason that McKibbin will get a Wallaby cap is if the ARU decides they want to keep him as an option here and scupper any plans he might have of playing for Scotland.

^^^ I dont think we are that desperate for quality players that we need to do that. White is talented but he has been behind a forward pack that has consistenetly been able to go forward most matches. Genia has struggled behind a reds forward pack which at times has been weak however and has had to shoulder the the load of sparking attacks due to the flyhalf situation. Watch genia to come alive these next few weeks and if white wants to shwo he is that good he needs to be a standout next time the brumbies play the reds cause last time he was average

I agree. I think it would be a horrible move by the ARU unless they really decide that McKibbin has a future as a Wallaby.

At this stage I don't think they could say that so to take a cynical point of view, if McKibbin is capped as a Wallaby this season, I think it would be a lame move by the ARU to deny McKibbin a chance to play for Scotland.

McKibbin should play for Scotland, atm Genia has a mortgage on the 9 jersey, and White looks promising for the future. His only hope for playing for the wobs is if Genia gets injured, or playing off the bench every game (if he gets picked over white). Id rather be a starting 9. Just saying.

The Brumbies might've lost to the Reds in that game, but White was by far the better scrumhalf on the night.

I don't think giving him a cap is unfair. Even if White takes the number 2 spot (which is no certainty), having a player like McKibbin available for selection is the best thing for the Wallabies.

In regards to what's best for the player; Mckibbin is an adult and full aware of the risk that he might only ever play a few caps if he doesn't shine when he gets his chance. Give him the option and let him decide.

The absolute worst outcome would be that they don't offer him the chance like discussed above, because he may only play a few games.

definately disagree, why would we cap him when there is at least two people better than him and chances are in 2 years time people liek frisby and prior will be better than him as well. The man can goal kick good on him...but other than that he is nothing else that distinguishes him as a better player than white and genia who both are better organises and better at sparking attacks than him.

Have to disagree here. I know one swallow doesnt make a Summer but I thought he was exceptional on the weekend. Give the guy a little more game time before the selectors make a call, but i think he could easily play himself into that second jersey.

Secondly, since when is playing for the Wallabies for a few games a raw deal? i think 99% of Australian professional rugby players would be ecstatic for such an opportunity. At least let him decide.

And thirdly, frisby? Prior who? I am sick of blooding people in the green and gold on potential. You are either the best in your position and are selected, or you arent ready for the honour. Youngsters like these guys are nobodies until they prove they are somebody on the field.

there are much better 9s in aus than mckibbon. he's solid but partial to brainfarts like few 9s.
genia won't go anywhere. he's below his best at the moment and that's still better than all the other 9s in aus and probably super rugby.
    white looks great
kinghi needs to get more game time at the rebels - unsure why the jersey has gone back to phipps who looks average as usual.
stannard has been playing very well and then we have all the young up and comers.
only reason to cap mckibbon is for purely selfish reasons - let him go to scotland. it was like the aru capping timani IMO..the future lock stocks for aus are pretty damn bright, but they capped him just in case and it prevented him from playing for tonga.

Funny people on here talk about being capped for the Wallabies as a real downer for McKibben. What a shithouse thing to happen to him, the poor guy.

FFS he is an Aussie, who gives a flying fuck about Scotland.

I would sell my mother for five fucking minutes in a gold jersey, and hopefully he feels that way as well.

And on recent form he deserves to be our 3rd string halfback. So will he get capped? Maybe. Should the selectors care about his potential move overseas next season? Fuck no.

Agree that Kingi has huge potential but i also think Timani could well become our best lock in years to come. Who's to say McKibbin cant do the same? Its really only his first season

for my money he has phipps written all over him - looks good now but throw him a test pressure cooker and his confidence will be shot and his decison making ability will quickly fly out the door.
    that's just an impression though.

Your missing the point of what I said which is in a few years they will probably be above him I wasn't saying they should cap them now. Maybe he could get the wallabies 2nd string jersey but lets be honest. Being second choice to nation even your home one isn't as attractive as being the first choice and cornerstone of another. If ireland came up to me tomorrow and said look we a revamping our side we want you to be Brian O'Driscall or paul O'connel replacement I would most likely accept it over being a wallaby squad member. Besides he is more scottish than people give him credit

Being born in Scotland makes you fairly Scottish.

Having a surname beginning with Mc doesn't hurt either.
