So does anyone wish to kick off the debate on what the U16 GPS Presidents squads could look like?

CAS 2016 Thread developed a healthy discussion so hope the same can eventuate here (or wherever it should go!). Broadly agreed with the collective view of the CAS squad selected

Not sure if this is the right thread but wouldn't know how to start one! So hoping someone else does :) Still on my G an G L Plates

Pop over to the 2016 GPS thread where this is under way.

There was a separate u16s Invitational thread last year, but I don't believe anyone has started one for 2015.

Probably best to discuss the 2016 Invitational in this thread.

It is a NSW JRU orchestrated tournament after all, and flows logically from Junior State Champs and the JRU rep teams.

Cool. so does anyone care to let me know how the competition will run this year?

Four teams playing in round robin format. NSW U16 Schools, SJRU U16, NSW Country U16 and NSWJRU U15's. Draw is not out yet but suspect two games on the Saturday and one on the Sunday. ACT might be a late entry but at this stage i doubt it.
NSWJRU U16 Presidents XV will also play on the Sunday against Bowral Academy.

Schools will be very strong with a number of boys playing 1sts. They will win it easily. From there harder to assess. Syd u16s defeated Country a few weeks ago, but it was close. NSW U15s are a strong side but it's a big ask to step up against the older age group. I think they will be competitive against Syd and Country, with a win against one or both possible.

I hear that U15s are playing a trial v Hunter U16s this weekend at Gateshead near Newcastle. Does anyone know what sort of preparation other teams are undertaking? Any trials planned?

How did this trial go any word?
A very strong win to the U15s NSW side - 60 odd to 10 with no goal kicks after first 20 mins. To be fair to Hunter U16s, they had their CJRU players out. Nsw looked a quality outfit right across the paddock and the bench maintained the standard when brought into the mix. Hard to point to real stand outs as everyone did their job and they played extremely well as a team. The real positive was how well the 6 Country boys in the mix slotted in given they hadn't had the same game time with/against the 17 Syd players as that 17 have had with each other over this and past few seasons. Full marks to those Country boys.

Next weekend will be a sterner test.

Thanks for the update. Any idea of starting line up for the 15s and positions??

CatchnPass, Were you there? Any idea of the starting line up? Which players stood up compared to their teammates in the same position?

Starting line up yesterday was (I think):

1. Toomata
2. Winchester
3. Bell
4. Jansen
5. M.Brown
6. Mau
7. Leniu
8. Reimer
9. Kitchener
10. Walsh
11. Dutallis
12. Minogue
13. Easy
14. Cameron
15. Creagh

Injured: Endemann, Tejcek, Titmuss

All of the starting team played well and the bench equally so when wholesale subs were made at oranges. The coaches would I think be pleased with the work rate in tight and that the tries were scored out wide for the most part with Cameron bagging 3 and Dutallis 2. There were a couple of defensive lapses and errant line outs, but overall a very good first up hit out for a team that has never played together before.

If I had to pick stand outs, probably Bell, Walsh and the Country no.5, M.Brown (though the Syd 5, J.Brown, also played well when he came on). That said, the coaches were clearly trying out different combinations, and Titmuss will be back next week (will probably go to 8 with Reimer to 6), so I wouldn't be confident the starting team will be unchanged for the Invitationals.

Will anyone be around to film the NSW Invitationals? In particular the NSW 16s side? They should be a pretty special side to watch.

Just following up on this as I won't be able to get to Eastwood for the action... Anyone know if there will be footage and photos of the games being taken and recorded???
