ODI World Cup 2019

India looking ominous for mine. Someone with a top class bowling attack is going to have to stop them in a semi or final with a devastating spell to gut their batting line up. Can't see anyone beating them otherwise.

Bangladesh did NZ a big favour by rolling WI, now it's time to take full advantage by putting SA away. Weather looks not too bad so hopefully we get to bat for 50 overs which we haven't done/ had to do so far (95.3 overs in our three matches)

Looking like Australia needs two wins from Bangladesh, NZ, England, and South Africa to lock in a semi-final birth.

Coupla interesting stats from Ringinland's demolition of Afghanistan:

Also possible future NZR CEO Martin Sneddon (12 overs 0-105 v England in 1983) no longer holds the record for worst CWC bowling figures after Rashid Khan's 0-110 off nine. Reminds me of the quote from NZ medium pacer Willie Watson who went for plenty one day & described it as being "like bowling in the highlights".

Record for all ODI's still belongs to Mick Lewis, 0-113 off 10 v SA in the 400-a-side match back in 2006.

And Rashid Khan is supposed to be the unpickable mystery bowler, they can certainly hand out a pasting the England ODI side.

That is no certainty with how at least three of those sides are playing. I don't think we've got out of about third gear yet. That's not an arrogant statement, more a reflection that we haven't played great cricket across the batting and bowling innings in a single game yet.

Yes, we were quite lethargic against India. Couldn't get wickets early and just accepted that they were going to put a big one on us. Batsmen then treated it like batting practice and didn't really even seem to want to have a go at it.

Our match against England will be a real tournament-defining one for us. We haven't had much success against them in ODIs of late so if we get up it might click us into gear.

SA 241/6 off 49 & made NZ work really hard for the four wicket win with three balls to spare. NZ wobbly early on before de Grandhomme smacked 60 then holed out but Captain Dependable got them home with a six that brought up his 100 then the easy single to seal the deal. Bowling-wise Boult went for 63 which is a worry as he's still only taken three wickets in the Cup & his economy rate isn't what we've come to expect. Still a good win against quality opposition so we'll take it.

EDIT: wasn't watching at the time but apparently KW edged the last ball of Tahir's spell to the keeper who didn't appeal. Was on 76 at the time so probably a match-winner had SA taken that wicket.

IS Maxwell a bad runner or just having a bad "run" of it lately? seems to have been involved in a few the last few games

Stitched up by Khawaja a bit for the last one.

Seemed to put a more complete batting performance together today with 368 on the board with 1 over remaining (bowling and fielding left a lot to be desired, though). Currently, a rain delay, however. A washout is the last thing we need.

It's almost certainly too little too late for them to make the SF, but SL knocking off Ringinland could have a major bearing on the seedlings.

What a great result for the tournament. I said the other day that a great bowling performance is going to be needed at some point and Malinga delivered last night. Well played.

I noted after we made 380 against Bangladesh Vaughan and Swann were saying we didn’t accelerate fast enough and Warner should have played more like Morgan did Afghanistan. Bit of egg on their faces now. Hoping even more we can beat them Tuesday night. Nothing better than breaking Pommy hearts at their own WC.

Both pushed almost to breaking point by Afghanistan & WI respectively but India & NZ remain unbeaten.

Captain leading the way with 148 & Boult finally amongst the wickets with 4/30, doubling his haul for tournament at half his previous RPO. Neesham starting to become a specialist death bowler which was needed today after Henry's ninth went for 25.

Pakistan next then the two big ones, Straya & Ringinland to determine if we qualify 2nd.

Would have taken 285 at the start of the innings but, fuck, we left a whole lot of runs out there. Hopefully, Starc and the ‘Dorf rip some front pads off early.
