Can anyone understand the logic behind this?

A cut for the sake of making a cut? A small step towards achieving that sacred goal in Australian politics, the budget surplus?

It is completely nuts. Although from the photos I saw today there was a complete lack of labcoats at the protests. Where is the commitment to the cause?

Gillard has described the cutbacks as speculation. Hopefully she keeps backing down.

The problem is on one hand everyone wants lower taxes, but lower taxes eventually lead to cuts like this. OR it's more of an allocation thing. Health & Medical research should be considered as very important though imho!
