I think you guys are missing that Joseph Swann (BSHS) played Australia A last year? you might want to rethink your teams.

He has been playing 2nds by choice this year - don't believe the crap about concussion and ask the player himself. Having said that, a fit and willing J Swan is an essential in any Qld rep team.

So with GPS 1 team basically selected who will the panel be looking at for GPS 2? Thought I may throw out some names to the forum.. Players with asterix's still in contention for gps 1.
1. Kaitu NC
2. Clay ACGS
3. Wakely TSS/ Young ACGS
4. Crookes GT/ Vasilades TSS/ McMahon NC
5. Patridge BBC/ Sharp BSHS
6. Birgin GT (vc)*
7. Mitchell (c) ACGS*
8. Swan BSHS (selectors will give him a run)/ Maile BSHS/ Ayala GT
9. Eason ACGS* / Fairnington TSS/ Gale NC/ King IGS. (Where did all the quality at #9 come from?)
10. Brittain NC
11. Vakuata IGS/ Kallell BBC
12. Laud BGS* (Tuttle GPS 1 for now)/ Gordon IGS/ Hartley TGS
13. Polau ACGS
14. Goodrich TGS
15. Greene BGS*/ Everson BSHS/ Banks BBC/ Given GT

Thought alo-emile finished last year?
Agree with Swann but hes unlikely to get selected higher than GPS 2 if he's not consistently playing 1st XV which i heard he isnt or hasnt got the form required. Not over the likes of Mitchell, Satui, Browning and Birgin anyway who have each been devastating (3 of whom are captains). If they are so keen to play him flanker expect him in the CSS team as a wildcard for Qld 1.

If a player is connected to an nrl club does that rule them out of selection?

negative. or not as far as i know. Many 'overseas' players seem to be doing that these days and still get selected for GPS sides and Queensland. i.e Henry Taefu played GPS 1, and Qld 2(May be wrong) and was part of Paramatta development program, still is

I take it that 1. DAE ia a brother of 3. PAE. How do the two compare at the same age?

I don't quite agree with that stance. Why waste what precious little money rugby has on players who are not planing on staying loyal to the code in the future.

yeah, you have a good point. Im not sure why the panel encourages it, but they pick the best players for the positions. Regardless if the kid plays league, cricket, football or whatever other aspirations he has, if he is suitable and the best man for the job then he should be selected on talent alone. If they discarded all those signed to league clubs or whatever people would see the GPS teams to not be as strong and the criteria for selection would be heavily questioned. Thats my thinking anyway..

eh. decent team. Goodrich wont make GPS 1 over Monty Ioane. Billy Brittain wont play #15 over specialised fullbacks like Bowen or Greene. Never head of Cornelson before, wont get the nod over Fattal (TSS) or McMahon (NC). And apparently Alo-Emile isn't as good as older brother or up to representative level? (just what ive read)

Whats great about the GPS this year, is the amount of talent on offer. All 3 teams have great players in them. There are, no doubt, a thousand opinions about who's in what position, but the depth is there and good to see.

thats why he was selected last year and has already sealed his spot. As for Wakely, hes got tough competition in Nguamo (Aust. Schoolboy 2010) so I dont see him making gps 1

Thats the Australian Schoolboys side from last year. Notice C. Browning #4 (BSHS). Just putting it out there, why would he be selected at 6 or 7 this year when he's playing 4 for AUS? I know hes a natural flanker, but with the wealth of talent in the backrow why not select him as a lock?
