Players in league tackle high to stop offloads but also to try and force the player onto their back as it slows the play the ball.

The reason they don't tackle round the legs is not to avoid injury but because it will generally result in the player going to ground quickly, mostly on their front allowing them to play the ball quickly.

I really doubt players who are good tacklers in league would struggle to be good tacklers in union. They are professional athletes playing a contact sport and have the ability to adapt to what is effective in the sport they play.

League tackles aren't around the chest because players lack the ability to tackle lower.

Bob Dwyer famously said the loig players learn how to be good tacklers, but not good defenders. We have seen some examples of very good loig players (Tahu is a standout) who were not particularly good defenders in our code.


This does not mean that players are incapable of learning, of course they are.

Regardless of where they make contact him, the power of driving through a tackle comes from the legs, the bloke has a low centre of gravity and good leg drive..

Someone said he is all upper body and has chicken legs, I couldn't disagree more and this is reflected in his strength in contact.

Not a completely unreasonable proposition especially in a RWC year, but he would still need a reasonable offer from the ARU..

I'm completely against Fifita receiving any ARU money. If the tahs want him, they should pay for his services within their salary cap. The salary cap which they are already advantaged by due to the sheer amount of players receiving ARU top ups in their squad.

Surely the money would be better spent elsewhere, perhaps offering players like Kimlin, Pyle some extra funds to stay in Australia?

Just see on Foxsports news that South Sydney have said they have "Moved on" from Fifita and wont be looking to sign him.

Options running out fast for the big fella.

Cowpats. Just like the Board of a given rugby union announcing a coach has their complete backing just before coming to "amicable terms" of departure, this sort of statement means that there are a host of NRL club accountants laying smoke down until they can figure out exactly how to cook their books.

Classic club tactics. Everyone knows he's not worth 850k. Diminish the players worth and limit his options only to offer him a lesser price a few weeks later

Reportedly his wife wants a move back down south after having their first child.

Don't see how he'd be worth the money he'd get in league to take a risk on him in union.

They'd be better gunning for a guy like Fifita, whose market value has dropped remarkedly after apparently getting screwed by the Knights. It doesn't help that Fifita isn't playing too well currently, I suspect because Gallen is out.

Would struggle to earn a starting spot in most of the super rugby lineups, he has had a very roller coaster career in terms of form.. He was released early by the Warriors and potentially now the Bulldogs as well..

Can kick.. Can't catch.. Although if the Tahs are looking for a kicker, he might be the man.

Which is why the Warriors cut him loose mid-season & the doggies picked him up for a pocketful of loose change. He turned in a series of really good games, incl giving his former club a touch-up, made the Kiwis WC squad & has pretty much been shite ever since. Hence can't get a first grade start hence wants a contract release hence talking about switching to Union. SOP for unhappy league players these days.

Teo has an English passport and is investigating European Rugby, no mention of Australian Rugby..

He is 27yrs old and has no real history of playing rugby union, probably just chasing some superannuation.
