Its a school - if they cant afford to stage it they should either stop giving away money to sportmen, hock the hyperbaric chamber or have another rah rah rugby lunch.

Theres no double standard here as you would see if you bothered to look: as soon as I became aware that mercenary. tasteless behaviour had reached a new low I started a thread. Waste some more of your time and search for it.
There's also no righteous indignation - as I've said before if i needed to feel better by having a connection to a more rugby oriented school I'd switch schools. I dont need my thrills watching my child or my old school "achieving" rugby premierships.

I would equate the suggestion by you that I name them with the idea that a school should accept sponsorship. Its in bad taste.

Happy to comment on a financial transaction, just need more information payee and payor would be good start as well as value. The more information you can provide the better, if enough is provided I may even be able to offer up some tax advice.

I did not disrespect KB (Kurtley Beale) in any way. The point being made is that if you are going to have a debate about scholarships or write an article about it as per David Kirk, Joeys needs to take its place in that debate and have its actions scrutinised to paint a complete picture.

You are obviously involved with NC as per your diligent defence of its practices within this field by being evasive to the point of overbearing. I will set you a task Ken...
Ask his father. He is quite prepared to say the his lad is getting a quid (stipend) from BOB (Benevolent Old Boys) and that if he doesn't give a hoot about the game. Ask around at Stanmore Ken. There is plenty of knowledge about this. One just has to ask the right person the right question. Just be prepared for answer that you will not be able to publish either.

Success at the boatshed must be a relative thing for TSC. it's been a long time between drinks and that's a premiership you cannot buy.
Cricket- where did that fast bowler/batsman in the 1s from NSW U18s who could not make training in Sydney come from and when?
Basketball - someone explained the quota system for recruitment there to me but its such a god awful sport I'd be quite happy to see TSC win it every year with NBA players so I paid no attention to the detail. 4 recruits in the 1s rings a bell.
Before you get too carried away with the 15s you need to check where they were in primary school and the circumstances in which they got to to TSC.
There's a ready made scouting combine every year at the NSWPSSA titles, as shown by that age group at Newington - though for them rumour has it there is a transfer to SJC in the wind for one of their star recruits.

Two, one of whom made the NSWPSSA team (Grammar Edgecliff and Newington Prep also had a CIS representative each)
No idea, but as CIS is a private school rep team and most of the schools represented have senior schools, I suspect none. the Coogee Prep boy may have as it is a feeder school to Scots.
Compared to some advertising I've seen, I have no problem with the 7's advertising. Believe or not it, but advertising is apparently used quite frequently in the real world to help defray costs. I'd call it sound financial management by Scots. Where was your righteous indignation when your beloved Grammar attended a few years ago? The boys love it and those boys from Schools that refuse to play (due to it being played at Easter) wish they could play.

I must say I just cannot see how people think it is desirable to have commercial sponsorship for school events. It just blurs the lines between childhood and commercialism and school and having fun and everything.
These are not professional sports or sportmen: they are imitations of them!
Cars parked on the field. Banners.
I can see legitimacy in all the other arguments to the contrary of my point of view except this one.
McDonalds should be sponsoring the canteen/tuckshop or, if the undesirability in that case is too obvious to make the point, then Subway should - they're meant to be healthy aren't they?

Don't know of any SJC boys that lamented that they had not played. They thought it was a bit of a laugh more than anything. And as far as your own bagging it ask most of the outside backs, particularly the ones that left last year and are now playing grade/Colts.

Majority are on 50% or less, so tell me again how this works? Without this assistance these boys would never have the opportunity to attend a school like this. It is a far cry from coming home from their previous schools where lockdowns were experienced, or ambulances called to students after assaults, or where they are asked to bring iPods and headphones to class ( maths) so they don't get distracted by the teacher trying to control the disruptive classmates. One boy on his initial visit asked where the fences were? And how do they keep the kids in?
Scholarships/Bursaries are a life gift to some of these kids for which they and their parents are extremely grateful, irrespective of which School. Some of the authors of posts need to have a bit of a reality check in relation to what the Schools are offering and the reasoning behind it.

GPS were winners by 57 to 5 IIRC. How many of those points were scored by non year 7 entrants?

Would CHS have been competitive if those boys hadn't changed systems?

Would those boys have developed to the same level if they had stayed within the CHS system?

In terms of @Jasdec's post. The private schoolboys get up to plenty of shenanigans as well. They are better at covering them up, plus they have the luxury of the ability to expel disruptive influences and force them into the public system.

If my memory serves me correctly, he was dropped completely from the school rugby program and stripped of all honours and colours in rowing, rugby and athletics. All for showing loyalty to a team, coaches and his club.

Lumu, this is like saying SBW could have a game for the Valley Rugby Club in Otago whilst he is contracted to Easts League. I dont think Easts would tolerate it.

Conversely, it is also like SBW playing for a combined League and Union compssite team that has not been endorsed by the NZRU when he was playing for the ABs. Go figure???

This is the essence of school scholarships as discussed in the scholarship thread. The essence being, are they "on contract" and have a "employer/employee" or a "contractor" relationship.

Was he on a scholarship? I'm pretty sure that a rather outspoken opponent of scholarships has confirmed that the Jones family was paying full fees for their boy at Kings.

If so, then I totally support H Jones' actions .
