We kinda knew it anyway, but do you think they will maintain the rage without Father Ted?
Sorry Timmsy, couldn't help myself.
Nice to have a AB coach you can dislike again
Henry was an exceptional man manager. It will be interesting to watch.
He served an 8yr apprenticeship under Henry pretty much so based on that I think he's the sensible option. With the depth NZ have in their player stocks I can see them maintaining their dominance for some time. Its going to take another country to step up rather than the AB's losing anything coaching or player wise to topple them, big ask.
Yeah, pretty smooth transition really. They will lose Ritchie and Carter and IMHO those blokes are pretty well irreplaceable. But, the Kiwi's being the Kiwi's, they will unearth some top shelf nugget somewhere along the line. For all intents and purposes, all the ingredients are there.
Except possibly hunger. After 25 years of anticipation and disappointment, I think they will enjoy the spoils of the 2011 war and it will take a year or two to get the great AB steam train going again.
I suggest the Wallabies get in quick before the Blucks wake up..
Wonder if Hansen will can some of the cheap media-baiting he liked over the last few years, spinning any Wallaby media blurb into a torrent of disruspict.
Matt Todd (Crusaders) - watch this space. Biased again I know but he looks the goods, filled in for Ritchie during SupeRugby & held his own. He would be my pick. Others I'm sure will mention some more experienced players but I think Todd is a good bet. Cruden or Slade at 10 not as good as Dan but good enough. So yeah, I think they're covered.
TBH I hope he rips into us big time I actually think that would be good for us.
I think this is great news for the Wallabies he's a dud even Deans is a better coach than Hansen. I still remember the NZ papers shit canning him after they got rolled 3-0 by the Boks in 2009 & then Henry had to re-name his job title & take on the forwards coaching himself.
Hansen and Smith are two of the smartest Rugby brains you will meet. Steve built the Crusaders from the ground overseeing their development programs and recruitment in the 90s. He may not have the gloss of a lot a hollow test coaches but have no doubt they have the best man. Remember, while he was doing all this our coach was only team manager for the Crusaders.
He's a dud? Really?
I'm not really his biggest fan for non-coaching reasons; Like cyclo, I always thought if he could just keep his disrespectful yap shut a bit in the days leading up to a test match I would like him better. But thats just my opinon.
But a dud? I'd like to know what that is based on. Although I see your point; it's not as if he was an assistant coach for the #1 ranked team for years, or even a RWC winning assistant, or a multiple Bledisloe and 3N winning assistant, or.oh, wait.
My only reservation about Hansen so far is that it seems likely that he will take Ian Foster as an assistant coach. Ian Foster?!?! Waikato Chiefs, 8 years..'nuff said.
Who would you select Bullrush as his assistants?
Good question. I'd like to see Todd Blackadder in the mix sometime soon to be honest.
I thought you hate Canterbury
John Kirwin? The fella that coached Canada at the World Cup?
You have some fantastic coaches but I don't know if it would benifit NZ rugby too take them away from their current roles. Both Blackadder and Pat Lam I have a high regard for. I hope Pat keeps them blog articles comming again this season.
Damn you qwerty!!
Yeah, I like the thought of JK too. I also like Pat Lam a lot as well (his first blog for the 2012 season came out the other day I think) but he has to get more out of the Blues this season to be seriously considered in the near future I think.
Gotta be a kiwi finding his legs in Europe as assistant. Vern Cotter springs to mind.
