^^^^^^ yeah, Tuipolotu is being rested as is Retallick - both should be back next week, though. Haven't seen anything about Gear being injured, assume he's being given some down-time after his season in Japan, same as Nadolo.

Hurricanes got the job done overnight, 22-8 v Lions which is pretty impressive in Jo'burg:

Blues v Chiefs tonight, 5:30 AEDT, 4:30 Banjo.

Parts of the Lions v Canes match felt like watching a Reds vs Reds match.

Unsure why the Lions turned down so many easy 3 point opportunities.

Tough gig to win away at altitude in Round 1.

Happy that Canes got points, not sure how, though they went well in 2nd half. Thought Canes loosies all played well, and Perenara played pretty well at 9. So quite a reasonable start to season , as Canes tend to lose these types of games historically.

Some bizarre choices not taking the 3 when they were down by 6 with a long time to go. Obviously the score blew out at the end but who knows what would have happened if they'd been closer.

Hurricanes were only ok but they'll be very happy to get a win first up on tour. Perenara was probably their best.

The NZ teams have been like an episode of "New Faces" this week.

Lots of debutants and second stringers.

Makes me suspicious of you pricks and your grand plans for the cup. Stop dicking around and run your players into the ground like the rest of us.

;) Yep you right Charger, look at that cheeky bugger Rennie playing some 19 yo at 10, you will never win super games with that attitude.
Seriously thought young McKenzie made step up to this level quite well, and could possibly end up being quite a reasonable player.

Anyone else think he didn't quite fit the mould of a typical NZ No 10? Seemed to be much busier than most others and very willing to run the ball himself from anywhere on the park. His support play was also top notch. I think he was non-stop on the ball more than even Michael Hooper, and that's saying something.

It's gonna be quite the conundrum when Cruden comes back and young McKenzie sits on the pine. Your depth at 10 is an embarrassment of riches.

Be interesting to see who is your 10 for the RWC. Wouldn't at all be surprised if it is Cruden with Carter playing reserve. Then there's Barrett.

Charger, I would not completely discount Slade either, quite a good position to be in. Actually Brumby I thought he did fit the mold of NZ 10s, reminded me a lot of Cruden a couple of years back, only tackles better than Cruden at same age!!

Well.. with Bernard Foley and potentially Quade going overseas, if Damien finds himself on a long waiting list for the blacks, he could always take advantage his Australian blood.

Dan Carter seems to be coming increasingly attractive to Team Rehab selectors. Will he even make this RWC?
