Bad loss to a very good Welsh team.
    26=21

Didn't see much of the first half, what I did see Wales were in control.
    Except for scrums.

Obviously the result doesn’t matter as this is just a development team but the performance was poor.

The scrum was pretty much the only positive other than fullback Hansen. Although we were probably lucky to get away with the scrum many times as I didn’t see a lot of hooking.

Our defensive alignment was poor and one on one tackling lacking. Our attacking structures in the backline were basically lacking and our big forwards make bugger all impact rarely bending the line or looking for offloads.

Our breakdown work was ill disciplined and our handling was nye on diabolical.

Wales deserved to win. Our handling was very poor and the lack of intent to score tries from limited inside 20 possession was fatal. Kicking penalties when down by 10+ given we couldn’t get into attacking position made no sense. The 9 was poor and the team was better served by his replacement in the last 30 mins as they were against NZ recently. He needs to start and Tupou needs to get his hands on the ball more than Lucas who is busy but monumentally ineffective.

I actually thought Lucas looked reasonable but didn’t get any help from Tupou outside him. Lucas got away from the defence a few times but didn’t have anyone running off him. Some nicely run lines from his 13 would have helped. I guess he’s (Tupou) is new to the position though.

Tupou just trying to run round the opposition was one of the problems in the backline.

Pretty disappointing performance. The skill errors by the forwards in particular were poor. We've opted for a big pack that should be strong with ball running and offloading but they did neither effectively.

Amidst the gloom - this was a fair old try

@WorldRugby: Incredible kick. Incredible athleticism. Incredible try. You won't see many better than that. Great try for @qantaswallabies at the #WorldRugbyU20s

    Great Stadium for watching Rugby.
    Not too big. Great surface.

Shame the game was not up to it. [IMG]

Not sure about this. At what point does the result start to matter, if at all?

Sure, losses need to be taken on the chin. That's the basis of the game. But this result, lined up with the others over the last 5–6 years, is telling you that the "development" is wrong.

I reckon the U20 world champs is the leaving certificate exam. When the homework hasn't been done … well, maybe you're right; the results don't matter.

The real development happens over the decade leading in. Not much is going to change with two weeks in France. We know this.

Maybe it's time to save that tournament money and put it into actual development.

    Because the results don't matter.

I think there's an element of sarcasm to this in relation to various players (Stewart, Hockings, Petaia, Valentini) being kept back from the tournament to play Super Rugby.

RA is treating it like the results don't matter but I think most fans feel pretty differently.

The loss actually will help simplify things.

Junior Wallabies just need to win all their remaining matches. If they do that, they bring home the Cup.

The bonus point loss might be critical in determing the wild card.

Let's be honest. Too many Reds.

Half the field looked to be in red.;) Now off to watch the recording.

I thought there were some glimpses of good play but have to agree with others that that the appalling handling and lack of go forward from the pack really made it hard to get into good positions. There were good scoring opportunities on either wing but I still can’t work out if it was poor support by the winger or poor passing by the inside man that killed both chances. I’m also confused about the line outs - why did they insist on taking the ball down when they were going to give it to the half? Isn’t it more of an advantage to get the ball to thehalf from the top of the jump rather than giving the defence extra time to get organised? And when they opted for the maul, they lost possession. Fortunately the scrum was dominant or we’d have been in even more trouble.

And Sean Moloney has to be the worst commentator of all - the call throughout the game was amateurish and embarrassing, and he can’t even pronounce a player’s name properly - FFS, the #10 is Kuenzle, which is pronounced ‘Koonzel’, and not Kwenzie!!! Moloney’s a moron and Fox Sports should get someone sensible in there as a replacement.

And further to my comment about Moloney’s commentary - not once did I hear him mention the person who actually put up the kick that led to that amazing try. If Bayley Kuenzle’s kick hadn’t been spot on, there wouldn’t have been a try.

Was thinking that had to be the case but my RugbyReg sarc detector didn't lock in; bloke didn't overplay it, well done.

Must admit, it's a gambit I attempt on occasion.

The quality of the call was poor in the first half, before he lost his voice, and was just as bad in the second - he sounded like he’d been on the turps.
